NCAA Hoops 2006-2007
What better way to start out this thread than with the news that FIVE of Duquesne's freshmen recruits were shot last night in an apparently random act of violence on campus.

Midnight Madness Baby: NCAA Hoops 06-07
Schau, NCAA takes time off from harrassing William and Mary to pull 2 Rock/Chalk schollies for the next 2 years. I first heard that some of this was ol' Roy's doing but I believe the biggest infraction and the reason for the penalties was the 10K or so given to Darnell Jackson - a Bill Self player.
It's like Quinn Shady is still in the Big 12!!

Prolly because Greg Oden won't play until January. I'm still pencilling them and the Holes into the Final Four.

I am only going to follow conferences other than the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 10 and SEC. I am certain that the national champion will come from one of these conferences, but the joy of college hoops for me is the depth of Division I. I'm going to terrorize this thread with constant updates on the Patriot League, the Mid-American Conference, the Colonial Athletic Association, and of course, the A-10.

Conversely, I will hop on the bandwagons of Kentucky and Michigan, and only if either of them have game. (Like baseball, I also have dual college hoops citizenship)
Who would win the college hoops eat-off? Mel Turpin or Robert Traylor? I heard a story about Dinner Bell Mel ordering a dozen double cheeseburgers at the campus Hardee's one night.
And would either of them been able to beat Charles Barkley in his prime?

It was the two minor infractions that had to do w/basketball. . .giving cash to two players that had already graduated (both under Roy, no real biggy though).
How about the Billikens pussying out and having "Billiken Madness" begininng at 9:30pm last Friday and no midnight party at all. Junk.

A certain team is ranked #2 in the pre-season poll. I don't wanna spoil the surprise, but the name rhymes with "morph-a-vagina".

IIRC, Knight usually has a high rate of graduates amongst his players. The guy is a certifiable nut, IMHO, but at least he's got that going for him.

The way I read that story, Jackson's only gonna miss a few non-conference games and will be back before Kansas ever comes to town.

2 BC basketball players are suspended again
By Michael Vega, Globe Staff | November 6, 2006
Boston College basketball coach Al Skinner yesterday suspended junior center Sean Williams for two games and junior forward Akida McLain for nine for a violation of team rules.
It will be the second year in a row both players started the season under suspension; McLain sat out the first seven games and Williams the first nine games of the 2005-06 season.
This year, McLain, a 6-foot-8-inch, 220-pounder from Pittsburgh who averaged 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in 29 games last season, will not be eligible to return until a nonconference game Dec. 23 at Kansas.
Williams, a 6-10, 230-pounder from Houston who averaged 3.1 points and 3.4 rebounds and ranked third among Atlantic Coast Conference players in blocks a year ago (1.80 per game), will return Nov. 22 for a nonconference game at Providence.
Both will be allowed to practice with the team until their suspensions are lifted.
"Of course, you're disappointed," Skinner said after BC's 111-65 exhibition victory over St. Francis Xavier yesterday at Conte Forum. "You talk about the beginning of [last] season, but at the end of the season we were pretty good. I think more people pay attention in February and March than they do in November and December.
"Hopefully, it'll allow us to get better as the season goes along."
Senior guard Sean Marshall, a cocaptain along with senior forward Jared Dudley, said he was a little disappointed by the situation, but added, "I think we're over it now. Guys were upset about it, but stuff happens like that, you just got to deal with it."

Tough night for Little Rhody last night. I listened in while they led Houston all night but couldn't pull away. I slept while they lost at the buzzer in OT. The zinger for the state is that both the Houston coach and the player who put that team on his back, McKiver, were involved in Providence hoops for a spell.

I watched bits and pieces of the game. From what I saw, Vermont was dominating the boards.
