BBS 101

Don't create threads making fun of an ad that pays the freight.

A thread Miss Tippy started which was quickly destroyed by the resident fist of BBS moderating doom.

There was an ad for Bose which was larger than normal ads on this site, and a bit of an eyesore, so a thread was started that expressed that opinion. It's one of those ads that pops up at the top of the screen as you navigate this site.

pop up blockers rule!

I thought the BOSE thread was a review, so I never looked at it.

That's 2 threads gone tonight.

Actually, I thought I had soft deleted the thread about the Bose ad. I totally agree with all of you, but couldn't get in touch with anyone until today. We'll have another one that better suited by Monday or Tuesday..

Cool. If it had extended across the page it probably wouldn't have looked so out of balance. I have a couple Bose speakers.

I have Bose speakers, too, but on my screen that ad took up half the screen. I don't object to an ad at the top that pays the bills but I'd like to see more of the bbs itself on the screen than was the case. Glad Lois is working on it.

Lois has slapped me on the wrist for making fun of an ad in the past. I learned my lesson.

But Lois, I have an idea: let's get Bose to donate some Waves and send 'em out to us and we'll review them like with the CD giveaways.

I know a mechanic has one in his garage. They sound like a glorified, and expensive, boom box. Nothing more. Nothing less. Bose has gone way downhill since they made the decision to go with "lifestyle" products. My speakers predate that decision, thank goodness.

I like my Bose 501s quite a lot. They don't sell them anymore, typically, but they are the best speakers I've heard for the same amount of money. (They're the tower models, not the older 501 rectangular model.) I've always prefered them over the much-vaunted 901s, because the 901s require artificial equalizing that radically alters sound.

The 501s, I like a lot. I bought a set originally for the main room of our house when we built, and have since bought another, used pair for next to nothing (speakerwise) on ebay for the music room. Good freq response high and low, and the bass goes all the way down without distorting, also without being boomy or way in your face. For a working guy's wallet, the same money can get you a lot less sound quality.

The "lifestyle" stuff they're hawking now, however, I'd not walk across the street to pick up at a lawn sale.

I also have a pair of outdoor Bose that were made for use on sailboats and yachts, so no weather worries. I leave them up year 'round, no problem. Rain, sleet, snow, ice. They work as well as the first day I heard them.
