the Yankees will have absolutely no excuses if they don't win this year. you couldn't have scripted the season breaking better for them from the All-Star break on, from the Red Sox collapse to the Central going exactly as they'd prefer to Abreu being given to them to the A's beating out the dreaded Angels, on and on. now they have to take care of business.

The Dodgers will have their hands full in the first round with the Mets, who were obviously the class of the NL this year. However, the Blue Crew is peaking at the right time! Go Dodgers!

Mariano Rivera has the best postseason career ERA of all time (0.81). 2-4 on the list? why, that would be Sandy Koufax, Christy Mathewson and Eddie Plank.

That, more than heart, or Paul O'Neill is the prime reason for the Yankee WS Championship run during the first 1/2 of Jeter's career.
If the Yankees don't win it all, I don't care what reason is given as long as it isn't that A Rod choked.
The Yankees, win or lose are the best team in baseball by far when everybody on every team is healthy. If they lose, it's because it isn't easy wining 3-5, 4-7, 4-7 in succession

Well, at least they switched it.
Its now going to be: Zito / Haren / Loaiza / Harden / Zito, which is better than pitching Loaiza 2nd.

Well, if you watched as I did when Stanton WP'd the go ahead run on Friday, Matt Cain's meltdown on Saturday and Hennesey's walk-SB-single to lose Sunday you would know the Giants got nothing in the tank pitching-wise.

Maybe the off season stuff needs to go there...?
Just a thought.

Yankees expected playoff lineup:
Damon
Jeter
Abreu
Sheffield
Giambi
Rodriguez
Matsui
Posada
Cano
Rodriguez, it's worth noting, did not hit lower than 5th all-season, with the exception of 2 pinch-hit appearances which put him technically 9th in the order.

It would never happen, but I'd love to see them flop Cano and Damon. The latter hit around .200 in September.
Unless he's had bad ABs against Robertson historically, seems odd to drop ARod to 6th. He generally creams lefties and looked real good against Chacin the other night.

Damon - shaved punk
Jeter - punk with his own cologne
Abreu - new punk on the block
Sheffield - punk-for-hire
Giambi - treacherous punk
Rodriguez - pouty punk
Matsui - japanese punk
Posada - chinless punk
Cano - young punk
Nate's gonna eat these goobers alive! Four seam heater!

not really, if the starter can get through six, Bruney and Proctor are pretty good. Farnsworth is a total enigma, but don't forget that Mariano basically got to rest all of September, he can go two innings if necessary.
|
"We're going into the postseason with Mariano being a ninth-inning pitcher," Torre said. "We feel we have enough support leading up with him to be able to do this."

I'd like to point out that my three favorite words on this thread thus far have been 'and vice versa'. Well done.

6-19 career against Robertson for Rodriguez. HR, 5 RBI. 3-7 this year with a triple. To me though, it still makes sense to have him 6th, because when the game is decided, more than likely it'll be Rodney, Zumaya or Jones on the mound, and you certainly don't want Rodriguez ahead of those other guys then. I still think it's a crime that he's ahead of Matsui and Cano, but I suppose it's not that likely they'd hit him 8th.
I think he'll thrive at #6, actually. He was considerably more dangerous this year at #5 than at #4, for what that's worth.

MLB rules, section 1.18: "A fan may jinx a team by boasting outloud or by making grand proclamations at another teams expense. During the post-season, a fan may only jinx his own team."
Its in the rules, Larry. We're good. Whew.

Larry,
Surfer ignore lists people, too.
Not to throw cold water on your breathing, but this sort of negativity brings back the jinx.
Rule 1.19: No fan is exonerated by another fan who ignores people who tell him the truth or tweaks his smug little nose.
Hey...I don't make the rules around here, Larry. OK?

I'll post the current Tradesports World Championship odds:
Yankees 34.5
Twins 14.5
Mets 14
Padres 9
A's 8.7
Dodgers 7.2
Tigers 6.5
Cards 6.5
Either the Yanks or Twins will be a huge WS favorite, especially the Yankees.
All of the NL teams will be underdogs, even against the Tigers, except for the Mets, who I think will be favored against all but the Yanks and Twins.

Tradesports is drastically overestimating Minnesota's chances.

nice, I guess Sheffield has been swinging well the last few days. that lineup is just ridiculous, however you want to order it.

What chance do you give them to win the WS? BTW, it's not TS but the bettors who play there who you think are overestimating their chances.

I think people are overvaluing the late surge by Minnesota. There is no reason to expect a team to continue winning at the pace they"ve been winning at since the All-Star break. They weren"t as bad as they looked in the first two months, and they"re almost certainly not as good as they look now. I don"t really believe they"re any better than Oakland. And Detroit mostly dominated them over the course of 19 games, and that was when Liriano was pitching. After the Yankees, I don"t think there"s a whole lot of difference amongst the other three AL playoff teams. So I think the 14.5 is too high relative to those other teams.
