For the Amish Victims
If anyone is so inclined:
Nickel Mines School Tragedy
At the request of the Amish Community, a fund has been established at the HomeTowne Heritage Bank division of National Penn Bank for the victims and families of the Nickel Mines School tragedy in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Donations to the fund can be made at any National Penn Bank Division location.
or Donations can be mailed to:
The Nickel Mines School Victims Fund
c/o HomeTowne Heritage Bank
P. O. Box 337
Strasburg, PA 17579
The Amish don’t have health insurance, and one can only imagine what the hospital bills for these poor girls will be.

I thought that the Amish people looked after their own and didn't go to the outside world for aid?
Are you sure this is a legit fund?

Not that this forfeits the necessity of a fund in such situation but doesn't Pennsylvania pay for the medical care of victims of crime? I know California does.

Good question if they'll actually take the money (there's generally a stricture against taking money from outsiders without working for it), but as Coda says, these are going to be huge medical bills.
Most states cap reimbusement from crime victim compensation funds (those that have such a thing) well below what this is likely to cost, and, in any event, I really doubt if Amish families would take aid from the state. Private charity would be more acceptable maybe.

I heard the older girls asked to be shot first....to save the younger ones.
Damn.
How I hate what our society has become that people must choose between who dies and who doesn't.

"Jesus wept" has never been more fitting.
I know most folks here aren’t religiously minded, but I’ll tell you what, it does an old man's heart good to see a people who have taken their faith and used it positively. I'm talkin' about bravery, forgiveness, quiet dignity and solemnity. Right On! It seems to me they've discovered a peace that will elude most people for their entire lives.

I agree Sherman. If more people acted in that spirit the world would be a better place. I know damn sure none of you would ask to be shot first in an effort to save the rest of us if someone came in here shooting.

Fulton Bank set up an account in the name of Roberts' widow, Marie, on Thursday after securing permission through her minister, said bank spokeswoman Laura Wakeley.
"They really had nothing to do with this and now they are without a husband and a father, a source of support for the family," she said.>>

You usually make more level-headed statements than that last sentence; in fact you don't know what anybody here is capable of when put to the test. I'm not making any grandiose claims for myself or anybody in particular; just that nobody knows until they're faced with it.

What impressed me to no end is that the wife of the murderer was invited to attend at least one of the funerals. That is enlightenment.
