Icon sounds

Can we get rid of the sound for the icons or have OFF be the default position? I really hate websites that "force" sound on me (including artists' sites that open with music rather than giving me the option to choose whether to listen or not). I'm often listening to music while surfing and websites that give me sound whether I like it or not interfere with what I'm listening to.

I have tried to be tolerant and not complain too much, though I did complain once before. Bluenoter gave me some list of instructions, but it was too complicated to deal with at the time. Now that I try to find that thread, I can't.

Yes, I realize there's an off button up there and I've tried to make use of it. What a pain to have to turn off the sound everytime I surf in from another site. And sometimes I forget and the ridiculous things startle me.

While some people may find the little sound buttons "cute", I just find them cheesy and annoying.

Thanks for listening, and if you can figure out how to let a user shut that stuff off permanently, let me know. Please.
