Peppercorn Thorne, a Republican?

I received something in today's mail which absolutely "fractured" Patti and me ... a Republican Platinum Member card! Since I've never aligned myself with any political party, this was a revelation, indeed. Those of you who "know" me from this board will doubtless chuckle at the absurdity of this mailing, not to mention the waste of a precious tree and the cost of postage.

I won't bore you with all of the phony, cloying, two-page form letter crap, just a choice couple of paragraphs.

"Mr. Thorne, I believe your exemplary record of loyalty and patriotism proves you are the caliber of leader President Bush can count on in this important struggle.

It is therefore my distinct privilege as Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) to present you with your 2003 Republican Party Platinum Card on behalf of President Bush and every Republican leader nationwide. I hope you will be as proud to carry tis exclusive card as I am to have the honor of presenting it to you. "

Sincerely,

Marc Racicot
Chairman

Apparently, our Criscoİ-annointing Attorney General hasn't discovered my wayward ways, yet.

Eat your heart out, Monte. Do you have your Platinum card yet?

There's no credit limit. You're allowed to spend yourself into a "never to be recovered from deficit."*

*Your children and grandchildren will be required to repay your out of control spending...

I thought that any amount you spent was deducted from your lifetime medical coverage or added to your tuition bill...

As a small business owner I get this sort of crap all the time. My favorite happened a few months ago when I must've somehow mistakenly gotten on a Republican list of people with some real money and I received a call from Tom DeLay's office asking me to join their "American Leadership Team" for a "membership fee" of "only" $15,000. Needless to say they got an earfull from me...

That's hilarious, Ron.
It sure trumps the constant "you qualify for a Visa gold card" [!!!] mail I always get.

LOL! I have found two ways to atay off of both parties' mailing lists of that sort: 1. I register as "unenrolled" and 2. I make sure not to make anyone think I have "real money". Seems to work so far.

Question

That's even better than the one I got yesterday thanking me for my interest in joining the ARMY!!!

The second sentence went on, "Since enrollment is limited to persons between the ages of 18 to 34, you are not qualified, but we hope you will encourage all those you know who are to consider the advantages of an Army career"

What a yuk!

I think they targeted you based on the Goodspeak theory that if you don't slavishly support the Dems you're a Republican by default.

Thorny,

Maybe the fine print offers tax deductions if your annual income is over 200 grand.

Isn't that the way the GOP works?

Even as we speak, I am using my unsolicited American Civil Liberties Union "membership card" (with my name even) as a page-marker in THE MISSION: WAGING WAR AND KEEPING PEACE WITH AMERICA'S MILITARY by Dana Priest.

So I hear ya, Thorne.

Ron has never dared call me a Republican. I wouldn't have been as insulted though as I would have been if he'd called me a Conservative, or a socialist, none of which I am.

I'm not a joiner and want to be able to lambast all politicians with impunity.
None, here, or in the U.S., these days, are true to the tenents under which their parties were formed IMO.
They're all in the "Power Game", regardless of their stated philosophies.

Oh, it's not a credit card, guys. It's a means by which I can donate money to the Republican party.

Here are a few more gems from this mailing:

Mr. Thorne, what makes the Platinum Card so prestigious is that only a very limited number were commissioned and only a select few chosen to receive it: you and other distinguished Americans who helped elect President Bush to the White House and can be trusted to help him keep America's flame of freedom burning bright in this time of adversity.

On the 2003 Platinum Card Receipt Confirmation, to which my "prestigious" card is attached is the following:

TO: Marc Racicot, Chairman

[ ] Yes, Marc, I received my 2003 Platinum Card in excellent condition. I'm proud to accept this prestigious honor. I know President Bush is counting on me to fight here at home for the policies and principles that will strengthen our nation and our economy in this time of great challenge. I won't let him down!

Today I'm enclosing my 2003 Platinum Card membership contribution of:

[ ] $25 [ ] $50 [ ] $100 [ ] $250 [ ] $500 [ ] $1000 [ ] Other$_______

You bet!

I love the way you think, Pete!

I'm also a fan of Arthur, Francine and D. W. They aren't Republicans, are they?

So, Ron, did you send in the paltry $25.00, or did you fling all caution to the four winds and spring for the $1000.00 level??

That's hilarious!!!!! What amuses me most is that there are people that will receive that same dealie and think that they actually have been "selected" by the President and are being allowed to contribute. They may even be trying to find out how they can give more than just $1000.00.

To be honest, Ron, the only thing I know about Arthur is that he looks like me.

I'm getting a little spooked. In today's mail was a request for me to sign a letter of protest to help stop "left wingers" from eliminating ROTC programs on college campuses ... from Oliver North.

I'm not kidding, folks.
