This genre keeps rolling right along, and there are times I wonder why. It has generally sunk to new *common demominator* levels that perhaps should spell it's end, were it not for some illusion that this stuff is actually happenin'.

I get to hear more of it than I would on my own by being a long time host (of jazz) at a major university radio/Internet station.

That said, I continue to hear things that are pretty cool, clever and creative, but they seem to be in the mix far less often (to my ears) with the bottom line that it has generally become EXTREMELY BORING.

There's a line from Mose Allison's "...Mind Is On Vacation..." that for me fits what I'm hearing in rap & hip hop. Far too often the need to rhyme takes over all common sense, where they either make up words to fit [21st century ebonics?] or dream up ill [we're talking ILL]] conceived shit to rhyme because they *have to* to stay with the rules.

One example that I can rememeber, and wish I could forget, was a cat who put together something about dancing and partying to come up with some shit to rhyme the word "epilepsy." No kidding...

With that in mind, " If you're going to keep talking, please try to make it rhyme."

dammit, you're right. I hope everyone here has seen the Curb episode from a few years back when Larry is desparately trying to locate a rapper named Krazy Eyz Killah by dialing information. "Um, could you try Killah, with an 'ah' at the end?"
