Top Chef

Does anybody watch this show on Bravo? I missed last season but the season opener was a lot of fun. I wish I could be a judge.

It's on Wednesday nights at 10PM.

Yep, the wife watched Project: Runway and watches this, and I watch with her. I find both of them interesting as far as reality television goes.

That they sacked Billy Joel's wife (who, surprise, has all the charisma and personality of a turnip) and replaced her with the incredibly hot Padma Lakshmi makes me giddy.

Yes, if it's about food or cooking I watch it. Lots of big egos and as an aside I can't help but notice that many people who work in the restaurant industry smoke like fiends. "Hell's Kitchen" illustrated this...

I agree. How many married couples are as extreme in the hot/not hot category as Lakshmi and her husband?

great show

first season was great

good thing about it (and Project Runway) is that the talented people stay on the shows the longest.

and people who know me are pretty *shocked* that I watch Project Runway,,,,,

I've only seen a 1/2 episode of "Project Runway." My 17 year old daughter loves it but she loves fashion like we love jazz.

Billy Joel's wife was awful as a conductor. I mean, Heidi Klum isn't exactly Don Francisco or anything, but she has a bit more personaility and can be funny on occasion. Personally, I always found Gayle, the Food & Wine critic more attractive than Billy Joel's wife.

Oh yeah, I watch both. I actually prefer Project Runway, which I've been watching since season 1. The problem with Top Chef is that as a tv viewer, I can only judge the products based on presentation. It's still fun to watch between seasons of PR, though.

I actually don't watch any other reality shows, but I enjoy seeing the creative process at work on these. Granted, it's only a part of it, but it's the hook. Once reeled in, you get addicted to the personalities.

Maybe Salman made a pact with the devil, "I'll arrange for your fourth wife to be beautiful, smart, and charming but in return the Ayatollah Khomeini will issue a fatwa against your life. I think it was a fair trade.

I finally watched a few episodes of "Top Chef" over the last week. I get a kick out of the odd, limited ingredients the chefs have to use, like snails, processed American cheese, potatoes, and beer nuts. That anyone would devise a recipe out of that stuff, rather than just ordering out for a sandwich, fascinates me.

Jimmy that was the second and most recent episode of season 2. Yeah, Otto was the obvious choice to go. He also served undercooked rice on the first episode and almost got fired then.

I'm going to handicap the show as it stands now. My predictions are probably in line with the results so far except I rate Elia over Betty.

I think the final four will come from:

Ilan D Hall
Sam Talbot
Cliff Crooks
Elia Aboumrad

Candidates to pack their knives soon:

Michael Midgley
Frank Terzoli
Marisa Churchill
Carlos Fernandez

Middle ranked contestants:

Mia Gaines
Josie Smith-Malave
Betty Fraser
Marcel Vigneron

Betty might make the final group but I doubt that she will win.

The producers might keep her and Marcel around as long as possible for extra-culinary reasons.

I know it's all about the food, but I am so glad that obnoxious little twit did not win. I was considering boycotting season 3 (for purely emotional reasons) if he did win.

I would have joined you.

I'm still pissed that the best chef (Sam) didn't even make the finals.

My predicted final four (out of 12) all made the final five but then Clif decided to assault a sleeping Marcel.

I agree, Sam should have won. He was not only the best cook, but had the best leadership/people skills. Marcel barely won any challenges over the whole season, so it seems like pure luck that he was one of the last two standing. Sam would have beat Ilan, I think, in the final....

Looking forward to next season...
