Boycott Chevy NOW
During the World Series we were exposed to the most cynical of commercialism with the ad for Silverado Trucks.
The song which drives the images of firemen, children and American disaters, etc. retorts: "This is our country" and ends with a very young girl in a cowboy hat leaning through the window of a Chevy Silverado.
The Chevy people are using human tragedy to sell a goddammed truck, fer crissakes.
A f**king truck!
Just what the hell is the matter with these people? Have they no shame? Do they not understand the suffering these people went through and how inappropriate it is to use their difficulties to sell a piece of metal on wheels?
Geez!
The commercial sickened me to the point of vomiting...I was beside myself with total, abject disbelief. Have they no shame...at all?!?

Chevy's standard flag-wrapped commercial with a few too many elements consistent with a 9/11 montage to be coincidental.

Hmmm.............
I'm not sure what is wrong with that. But I'll reserve making a judgement on it until I see it.

Brother Dolan...they used pictures of Katrina, too.
Given our obvious political differences...I believe even you will come to the same disgusted conclusion.

Um....I think I just saw it.
I'm not sure I get the outrage.
You have a middle American singer singing a middle American anthem while images that are close to middle America's heart flash across the screen,
I'm all for getting outraged about something, but you'll have to explain it to me a little more in detail. It doesn't seem any different than most other Chevy commercials I've seen.
I'm all set to be outraged about the Ford truck commercials though. That fat hick with the Ford emblem on his geetar droning on about being a Ford truck man makes my balls itch.
But I am willing to transfer, or at least split, my outrage between both automakers if it helps.

The way things are going with GM, I don't think you'll have to do much boycotting.

Maybe it's just me, then...but that commercial with all it's associations to American tragedy is a low as it gets when wrapping one's self in the flag.
It still fries my butt.

The American auto industry has been on the ropes, big-time, for decades. It's in red-zone crisis mode right now with literally thousands of lay-offs happening this past year alone. That said, in 35 yrs of auto buying I've NEVER bought an american car for myself. I heard something on one of the talk stations about how the U.S. Gov't. will never allow GM & Ford to completely shut down due to the fact that they build our wartime vehicles! Toyota tanks anyone!?

The bit about the government is nonsense. In any case, Ford had to have his arms twisted to even build for the government, as he was an open admirer of fascism and Hitler. He was pretty much forced into it by government pressure.
I've always bought Chrysler products, either Plymouth or Dodge, except for my first car, which was an enormous '63 Mercury.
I rented a Chevy a couple of months ago. I don't know the model. One of those little cars that kind of look like 40s models in front and sheared off flat in back. It was okay for a toy, but what a dog. I had to depress the accelerator a good five inches before anything noticeable happened. Not what you'd want for lane changes or entering traffic, where you need a quick power boost. I'd not own one, myself.

Now THAT I can get behind. Well, except for Christmas Vacation. I'll always have a soft spot in my head for that one.

Chevy Chase is also the name of a street in Beverly Hills....but we ain't talkin' comic here, boyz...this is about an auto-maker selling us a truck on the backs of suffering Americans who couldn't afford the damn things anyway.
Boycott the bastards!
