NBA 2006-2007

I bought my League Pass the other day, so that means we're pretty close, I think games start Tuesday...

With all the hype for the Bulls, I fully expect them to get blown out in the TNT opener at Miami.

The Team of Destiny of The New Millennium© has a very friendly opening month schedule and needs to get out of gate fast. JRich will be ready for opening night.

Chris Taft, who has never bounced back from his back problems, was cut.

Nellie thinks O'Brien is a key to the Warriors future.

LeBron's new Nike commercial is hilarious. The close up on the tuck during the dive had me rollin'.

Nervous time for Laker fans as Kobe's knee is not ready to go yet.

Knicks release Jalen Rose, basically to not hear him whining about not playing while making $17 million. nice work if you can get it...

LeBron's block of Korver's three at the end of overtime the other night was so beautiful.

Rose has already made $86M in his NBA career. Nice work, indeed.

speaking of guys who haven't had to work too hard for their money (although Jalen was one of the best few players on the Pacers team that went to the Finals, so at least he did something in his NBA career):

"According to the Boston Globe on Sunday, the Celtics made an inquiry into the availability of Keith Van Horn but were told by David Falk that Van Horn was going to take a year off and spend it with his family."

"Look guys, huddle up, here's the play. It's the 4th quarter, we're down by 2 points, we got 3.8 seconds left in the game. Never mind the Xs and Os, never mind whether it's zone or man up, never mind anything but this: Whatever you do, however you do it, just make sure you GET VAN HORN THE BALL."

One of the truly underappreciated greats of my lifetime.

Has anyone heard anything from Latrell Sprewell's family lately? I can only hope they're eating.

Van Horn's lifetime earnings are $84.6M, almost the same as Rose.

He earned every penny of it. My only question is which uniform he wears into the Hall of Fame.

Ok, I got my League Pass, so i guess I'm in. I'm not even close to being ready for the season to start though; still very much in football mode.

That's okay. Like the first half of games, the first half of the season doesn't really count.

Good thing that rule doesn't apply to Pac-10 football.

one reason the Knicks could release Jalen Rose is that the much-maligned Renaldo Balkman looks like he can actually play and deserves to be in the rotation. some will still say that they should have drafted Marcus Williams or Rajon Rondo, but those people are still missing the point (no pun intended), which is that they didn't need another talented guard on the bench, they have too many there already. they needed a SF role player, and that's what Isiah took.

San Antonio back on top in the West with a healthy Tim Duncan. Suns and Mavs give them a tough fight after disposing of Lakers and Clippers. Cavs and Bulls improve and make noise in the East. Pistons noticeably worse without Big Ben. Heat repeat.

I don't have any idea who's going to win the title. Anyone but David Stern who says he knows is lying.

too many people seem to be picking Phoenix, though, unless someone knows a lot more about Stoudemire than I do.

Williams should be much more effective than Jacques Vaughn in the Nets' rotation.

Predictions for Vince Carter?

Which is more likely?

1. He's a great player who is slowing down a bit and will be a little worse this year than last.
2. He's a great player with varying degrees of effort whose performance this year will be closer to his 1/2 season with the Nets in 2005 than his full season in 2005-6 because it's his contract year.

I'm not sure myself. He played incredible ball after being traded from the Raptors with a tattered reputation to shed and Jefferson injured. Last season, he didn't shoot as well and his defense was down a bit from the previous season.

The betting odds put the Mavs, Spurs, and Suns about even in the West, slight edge to Dallas.

Are more writers picking the Suns than the other two? Stoudemire at 60% of peak effectiveness is a net minus to the Suns. I am skeptical like you are until I see him come back to 90-100%.

I'll tell you the teams I'll be rooting for:

Toronto and Charlotte in the East and Minnesota and the Clippers in the West.

They're sleepers, but what the hell.
