Been lurking here for quite a while. For some reason there was never a "post reply" link at the old forum...but now I can post, so here goes:
Marc Johnson--Sound of Summer Running
Georg Grawe--Melodie Und Rhythmus
William Parker--Peach Orchard CD 1
I feel I know many of the regulars from reading posts. Hopefully, after a while, you'll know me too.
I've learned a great deal from you folks, and my collection (and wallet) have a lot (or little) to show for it!

Lex -- Click on the saxophone icon above and you will be sent to the JC artist website roster. Under "bass" you'll see Ben Allison. You can get "Seven Arrows" direct from him.

Welcome, stonemonkts!
Andrew Drury - A Momentary Lapse
I hadn't really heard anything by this New York-based drummer before, but when the band includes Eyvind Kang, Briggan Krauss, Chris Speed, Myra Melford and Mark Dresser, who's going to ignore that? Busy, dizzy, dense and playful. It's new on Innova.

Recent listening--
Pachora--Astereotypical (their new one).
Boris Kovac and Ladaaba Orchest--The Last Balkan Tango (a Yugoslovian jazz/tango outfit led by saxophonist Kovac, who also has a couple discs out on Victo and is apparently known as a "serious" composer. Very pretty stuff.)
Muhal Richard Abrams/Marty Ehrlich--The Open Air Meeting--a little-remembered disc from a few years back that reveals both participants to have very complementary styles. Wish the recording quality were better, though.
Evan Parker/Barry Guy--Birds and Blades--a two-CD set on Intakt, brand new and smokin'.
Other Steve--tell me more about the Drury disc--like where'd you get it?
P.S.
Feedback on my decision to use my real name is most welcome.

Chris -
The Drury just showed up in the mail today, but it's been my past experience that by the time I receive review copies of Innova releases, they're already in the stores, or will be within about a week. However, having just checked the label's website ( www.innova.mu), I see that there's no release date as yet for this one. Mea culpa - I swore I wasn't going to do that to you guys. I'll be sure to post when I find out this is available.
[Edit - Here's a direct link to this disc on the Innova website, which has more information, titles, cover art but sadly, no samples: http://www.innovarecordings.com/albums/581.html]
Incidentally, there's an increasing number of interesting jazz releases coming from this non-profit label that was previously known primarily for contemporary classical music, like its brilliant Harry Partch series. The website is worth a look.
As for switching to your real name, well, I always liked the mystique of your old handle! Seriously, I thought about going with my real name, too, but any time I post or write about jazz as Steve Smith, I get asked about my days in Journey...

The recent Braxton/Taylor Ho Bynum duo on Innova is a pretty good 'un, too.

Now playing:
Brotzmann (Die Like a Dog)--Little Birds Have Fast Hearts 2
(wow what a great cd).
Now I need to find LBHFH 1 and I'll be a happy camper.

I enjoy melodic guitar music, and I feel this is an excellent example. Also I seem to have a soft spot for sessions led by bass players (don't quite know why, but all of the ones I have are exceptional...such as almost anything by Mingus, Holland, Formanek, Haden, Helias, Parker, to name several).
