November 10, 2006
Attention All Media:
"Publicists, Clients, Journalists: Relationships" will be discussed by leading jazz p.r.. professionals and the people they seek to address on Wednesday, November 15, 6 to 8 p.m., at the New School Jazz fifth floor performance space, 55 W. 13th St., NYC, in the third monthly "Jazz Matters" panel/forum of fall '06, co-produced by New School Jazz and the Jazz Journalist Association.
With active contacts throughout the national press and international music industries, including performing artists, record labels, educational and membership organizations, festivals, concert producers and web-based initiatives, jazz publicists are key players in efforts to bring jazz to the public. Don Lucoff (DL Media), Jim Eigo (Jazz Promo Services) and Tina Pelikan (ECM Records) are veteran publicists who have represented clients of the first magnitude -- such clients as Dr. Billy Taylor, Joe Lovano (and many others on Blue Note Records), Keith Jarrett (among a constellation of jazz and classical artists on ECM), the Columbia Legacy reissues and Justin Time Records, among many others. They speak candidly of the challenges, opportunities and different approaches they take to publicizing music and specific projects to various markets via diverse and fast-changing media.
Howard Mandel, president of the Jazz Journalists Association, moderates, with promises of a journalist-panelist articulating distinctions between press relations and journalism itself.
