Set in the world of 1940’s film noir New York, MURDER MYSTERY BLUES is based on a series of short stories written for The New Yorker by Woody Allen and has been adapted for the stage by Janey Clarke. When hard-bitten gumshoe Kaiser Lupowitz (in a nod to Raymond Chandler) is hired by a curvaceous brunette to find the elusive 'Mr. Big,' a series of quirky New York stories come to vibrant life.
MURDER MYSTERY BLUES originated in London at the Warehouse Theater, Croydon where it played to sold-out houses and wide critical acclaim. The Sunday Times of London called it 'an ideal evening for thinking jokers and joking thinkers!' The Guardian declared it 'engaging in its fanciful absurdism…. Clarke gets the atmosphere just right, offering a jazzy, smoky evocation of a city that seems to exist permanently in the witching hour and is peopled by Mafiosi, nervous rabbis, peroxide blondes, poker players, gangsters' molls and assorted lowlife.' And Time Out London called it 'fun and Python-esque!'
