Yodelers

Looking for recommendations for good yodelers.

I am working on moving from "natural voice" to falsetto, and I want to listen to people who can really do it.

Not necessarily Rusty & Tania or C&W yodelers.... Could be from anywhere.

The girls have done stuff so far beyond anybody else I've heard, they have to be my first rec. Mary Jane and Carolyn DeZurik, known as the DeZurik sisters and also as The Cackle Sisters. The album I have of theirs has some stellar radio commercials as well as their (few) singles and material from radio shows. These girls are the whole package, traditional yodeling to yodel-based avant-garde barnyardscapes.

I've got to go running now, but the next one I'd check out is Sam Cooke. He learned the soul-yodeling style from an older member of The Soul Stirrers.

Gotta mention two classic western yodels: "Blue Yodel #9" by Jimmie Rodgers and "Cattle Call" by Eddie Arnold (written by Tex Owens).

The Hawaiian falsetto tradition has also produced some excellent yodelers. This is a fine comp:

Unfortunately it does not include the greatest of all the island falsetto masters, the GREAT Ho'opi'i Brothers. They do a wonderful song called "Hawaiian Cowboy" that has the Brothers doing a western style yodel. And their rendition of "Sweet Lei Lehua" is my favorite of all yodeling songs, any genre -- beautiful and mind-blowing. The Ho'opi'is were influenced by the Doo-Wop yodel as well as the native island traditions. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

The Fugs did a nice song called "Yodeling Yippie" that will round out your collection.

It's available here: http://www.amazon.com/Electromagneti...5736713#disc_1, and while I would'nt ordinarily recommend dropping 64 bucks on a box to get one song, in this case, I would make no exception.

By the way, contrary to what you might expect, it is physically impossible to yodel while eating one of these:

Yea, but I can yodel/gargle while washing them down with milk (1 percent, of course!)

Now, this man knew how to YODEL. Listen to "The Creator Has A Master Plan" on Pharoah Sanders's "Karma."

And, of course, this bein' the Internet and all, here's a link to more than I ever wanted to know about yodeling:
