The icons at the top of the page are still ticking me off. HOW do I get rid of them???? I always manage to hit them. Even if I remember to turn them off, I have to do it every damn time I leave jazzcorner and come back.
This has been disturbing for years and is even worse now that I listen to most of my music on the computer while surfing.
I felt like I was ignored the past couple of times I brought this up (except by some posters like Clint who also expressed frustration).
Lois, they might have been cute at first but they never change and what exactly do they contribute to the ambience of the site other than to show how "professionally slick" you look because you can connect a sound with an icon? That's so 1997.
I wish you'd get rid of the sounds on the icons or provide a way for them to be permanently shut off. I hate it when I'm listening to some true genius player and those hokey stupid buttons go off while I'm trying to navigate thread to thread. Way to stomp on the music of the masters.
So I'm complaining again. I see no reason to set the page up so as to interfere with any sounds the reader already has happening.

I don't have them at all. Why is that??? Not that I want them, but I don't have them, but I'm on dial up, and sound can be a bit of touch and go with it.
Sandi--
That's encouraging. Because if I can figure out why you don't have 'em, maybe I can get rid of them.
This trend of websites putting sounds in my ears without my saying so ticks me off. I just came across another one. This punk alternative guy's page completely pissed all over the Ronnell Bright stuff I was listening to.
I mean, in the scope of what's wrong with the world, this is nothing. But I really am becoming more and more annoyed with the unwanted sound.

No, these sounds are not related to pop-ups. The annoying sounds to which Cookie has referred are part of FlashPlayer, and I'm certain that they're also on your page too, Sandi. I suspect that you've never run your cursor over the icons which trigger the song samples, which is the only reason you haven't heard them . . . yet.
There are five icons in black & white at the top of the page, and to the right of the last one (Contact), you'll see the words sound, on/off.
Cookie, I don't know of a way to permanently disable those sounds, but I'm reasonably confident that there is a way.

Bluenoter?
I have no icons
I would send you the page but the mail won't handle this many words, but there are no icons. I'll tell you about what I have, I'll lay out the page:
A blue top with the name of the post, then:
JazzCornerSpeakeasy> Where jazz fans go to Talk!
Then a black section telling of the one hour Woody Shaw interview.
Below that is the Jazzcorner Speakeasy> WELCOME, FEEDBACK SUGGESTIONs then a welcome to me with my name, visiting information etc, below this all in the same section is: Those stupid sound icons! GRRR!
Then there's a tool bar, with:
User CP Members List Calendar New Posts Search Quick Links Log Out
Below that is the Post Reply bar, then below that Thread tools, Search this thread, Display Modes, and that is it, then the posts begin, there's not Icon one. Not on the Welcome page either.
I've been on dialup for the past 8 years until 3 days ago when we installed our cable modem via wireless router. Connection speed has nothing to do with page content. I'm virtually certain that you have icons but may have simply ignored or overlooked them. They appear at the top of every page on Jazzcorner's Speakeasy.
There are five icons just above the blue and olive header you see below. They're on a black background. There's also a Jazz Corner logo which looks like a street sign to their left. The icons are (left to right) saxophone/face/eye/newspaper/envelope -- followed by sound on/off.

No, not for me. If I click on the street sign, a page comes up with a window for signing up for emails, a list of things, but, not what you're saying. and such, there are no icons anywhere.

This is what I get clicking on the street sign window, but there are no icons anywhere around it. Not one.
Thanks guys! Somebody hooked me up via PM, too. I'll change my bookmark.
Oy. I'm glad that's solved. It was really getting on my nerves. I'd try to ignore it but as I listened music on my computer, it would go beyond annoying to maddening. I'm glad to have a fix, but I'm even more glad to know that JC isn't going to continue with the sounds in the future. Seriously, I find the concept distressing and annoying. I love it if an artist prominently offers me an "on" or "play" button for me to deal with at my leisure. But I hate it when without warning, somebody else's music hijacks mine. It makes me jump out of that person's page immediately because "off" or "stop" often isn't apparent.
I realize that people are jockeying for time in folks ears, but that ain't the way to go about it IMO. Yet it seems, that this is a big trend in making your site look "professional." I think the *most* professional sites are the ones that give me a choice. Those artists (or at least the folks who do their websites) know that they don't need to shove their music down the listener's throat to get across. The ones that play music at me from the edge seem desperate---and not a one of them has made me want to let the clip keep playing. All I want to do is figure out how to shut it off!!
Again, this is a small peeve but I *really* appreciate that there seems to be a fix this time. Perhaps somebody tried in the past and I didn't get it, but the links both here and in PM are very helpful for the time being. Thank you, thank you!!!!

When we launch the new site the whole look will be different there will no icons and no sounds. You'll also have to redo your bookmarks but it's a little while away, so do what you must for now
