Theme Song: Hi Neighbor!
No, not Mr. Rodgers and not Barney, which is all that I'm finding on Google.
I do a singing call to a song from 1941 that goes
"Hi, neighbor, Hi neighbor!
What do you know?
What do you say?"
and at the end it goes:
"Hi, neighbor, Hi neighbor!
Time to smile and say Hi!"
My older dancers say it was the theme song to a popular radio show, but aren't sure which one. One of them thinks it was "Major Bowe's Amateur Hour", the original show with a gong.
Anybody know?

I remember that song but for the life of me I can't recall what program it's from.
I don't think it's Major Bowes, though.

This is not its original appearance, but I can tell you that Rose Marie sang part of it in an episode of The Monkees.

Square--
I remember it, and not from Major Bowes (which I never heard). I recall it as the theme from some TV show. I'll look around.

Thanks, Rita. The question has been coming up for years, and bugging me. For a while we thought it was the Eddie Cantor radio show, but we were never able to verify that one either.
This morning I got a e-mail from one of my dancers noting
>>a "regional" 1942 movie by the same name about the Grand Ole Opry.<<

Not to be confused with the Porter Wagoner song "Howdy Neighbor Howdy," I guess.

Yesterday I asked a bunch of my contemporaries about the song. They all remembered it, but none of them could recall the show.
Old fart syndrome.
