52nd Street Jazz Fair - July 6, 1976 and other photos
I recently had some old black and white negatives scanned. Most are from the mid 70's like these taken during Bi-Centenial week in NYC.
During the July 4th, 1976 the whole of the westside of Lower Manhattan was blocked off for celebrations and the parade of Tall Ships down the Hudson. There were music and street vendors everywhere; different things happinging on each street.
As I turned a corner around Wall Street Charles Mingus' band were playing on the plaza of some brokerage buillding:

Later, before seeing Mingus at the Village Gate, I walked across town to Studio Rivbea.

Mingus among us!
Great stuff, Tom!
You may want to use flickr or some such. It would simplify uploads & not drain JC resources. Just a suggestion.

On July 6th 1976 George Wein held his own celebration on 52nd Street between 5th and 6th.
Clark Terry / Ernie Wilkins Quintet
Sonny Stitt w/ Barry Harris
Zoot Sims / Jimmy Rowles Quartet
Hannibal Marvin Peterson & the Sunrise Orchestra
and The Studio Rivbea Big Band were some of the ones I heard.

Maybe a couple of months later I was with Dizzy Gillespie in his hotel suite in Buffalo, NY, of all places.
He had just came back from the first American cruise ship to dock in Cuba; a jazz cruise. When I asked him if he met Fidel, he said " Fidel was afraid to see me!"
Here he is smoking a cuban cigar; he gave me one to smoke and I turned green!

At this time, Birks carried around with him exercise equipment and a professional juicer.
Here he is cutting a watermellon to juice up. Seeds, rind and all!

Thanks gentlemen.
I have hundreds more that have to be scanned. I had a lot of fun seeing these again after 30 years!
Here's another of Ben Riley & Percy Heath

Tom, as Cem suggested, utilizing Flickr or some other source as a "staging area" has dual benefits; the photos look cleaner and less cluttered, and it doesn't use bandwidth at JC. I noticed that you used such a service for some uploads earlier.
Keep 'em coming.

Don't aks me why Ron, but the last upload from Flickr to JC would not take!
Glad you like them.

Flickr does have a monthly upload limit for its free service. Perhaps you exceeded it? I use Flickr a lot and love their system.
Photobucket is another such service which is free.
