Onaje Allan Gumbs CD Release Concerts

ONAJE ALLAN GUMBS’ CD RELEASE PARTIES
AT CECIL'S IN NEW JERSEY, 2/2-2/3/07
AND AT JOE’S PUB IN NEW YORK 2/9/07

Featuring Bob DeVos, Marcus McLaurine, Gary Fritz and George Gray

Concerts Celebrate Release of Onaje’s Latest Album, Sack Full of Dreams

Pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs celebrates the release of his latest album, Sack Full of Dreams, with performances at Cecil's on February 2 and 3, 2007 at 9:00 p.m., and at Joe’s Pub on February 9, 2007, at 9:30 p.m. Joining Onaje are guitarist Bob DeVos, bassist Marcus McLaurine, percussionist Gary Fritz, and drummer George Gray.

Harlem-born, Queens-raised, Onaje Allan Gumbs has enjoyed a career as first-call sideman, valued arranger and composer, producer, and most importantly, bandleader and recording artist. Many will remember him for his vital contributions to such Woody Shaw classics as Moontrane and Rosewood, to which he lent his exceptional composing and arranging skills. Still others will recall his work as producer/arranger for vocal dates led by Downing, Rubin, and Marlena Shaw; or perhaps his sideman contributions to dates with an impressive range of artists – from NEA Jazz Master Kenny Burrell and Nat Adderley, to the cutting edge with Ronald Shannon Jackson, to the crossover work of Jonathan Butler. Onaje's soundtrack writing includes Danny Glover's Showtime film Override, and his song "Dare to Dream" was a theme for a Panasonic awards presentation. Onaje was recently nominated at last year's NAACP Image Awards as Outstanding Jazz Artist, and is currently working as the composer for an NPR radio documentary on Negro Spirituals.

This year, Onaje released his latest album Sack Full of Dreams on the 18th and Vine Label. Praised by The Washington Post for its “soulful, instantly accessible arrangements” and “effortless, small-combo swing,” Sack Full of Dreams features Onaje’s touring band, along with a guest vocal appearance by esteemed actor Obba Babatundé. Autographed copies will be available at the concerts.
