"Afro-Cuban Roots was born out of a personal intention to preserve and mix the Afro-Caribbean heritage with today’s music concepts that I have been working and learning in New York.” – Yosvany Terry
This project is a portrait of some of the legacies of African and Afro-cuban culture still alive in the Caribbean and Pan-African World. The group will be performing sacred music of the Yoruba cultural legacy. Representing some of the deities of the Yoruba Pantheon that are still venerated in the Islands and are part of the African Diaspora to the Pan African World, which include; Brasil, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Dominican Republic as well as South and Central America.
The “Afro Cuban Roots” ensemble members are each rich in solid foundations, experience and knowledge of the different traditions they are working with.
"It's always been my interest to work with the material I grew up with and update it with the new sounds of the 21st century", Yosvany remarks. “This project is an introduction to vast and rich musical and society traditions that have influenced many other cultures and sub-cultures around the world.”
