Rowan Jazz Festival Pays Tribute to Maynard Ferguson

Jazz Festival Pays Tribute to Maynard Ferguson

Rowan University’s College of Fine and Performing Arts in New Jersey launches their 37th Annual Rowan Jazz Festival with a tribute to jazz icon Maynard Ferguson, who lent his name to Rowan’s Maynard Ferguson Institute of Jazz Studies.

The three-day festival runs Feb. 7- 9th, and will include daily workshops and clinics, as well as a gala closing concert on the 9th.

The concert will feature trombonist Jim McFalls, who has played with the Baltimore Symphony Pops Orchestra, the Great American Music Ensemble and the Kennedy Center Orchestra, and who is a regular member of Capitol Bones and the internationally renowned Capitol Bones Big Band. Recently, McFalls was seen on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, playing with the popular techno group Thievery Corporation. Joining McFalls will be Italian trumpeter Andrea Tofanelli, who has worked with Ferguson, Canadian trumpeter Kenny Wheeler and ‘70s superstar Joe Cocker, as well as Rowan University’s Land Band and Jazz Band.

Workshops and clinics are free and open to the public.

For more information or for a complete schedule, contact Denis DiBlasio at (856) 256-4500, ext. 3528.
