Eric Jackson Presents 'Jazz in America' Lecture

Eric Jackson, radio personality and host of the region's best-known jazz program, "Jazz with Eric in the Evening" on WGBH 89.7 FM, presents Jazz in America at the Wenham Museum, Wenham, MA on Tuesday, April 10. Jazz aficionados and interested novices will enjoy learning about Boston's unique contribution to the world of Jazz from this noted jazz authority. In his enlightening lecture, Eric examines a variety of perspectives, exploring the 19th Century roots of jazz and its early development.

Having grown up the son of Samuel Jackson, the first African American radio announcer in New England, Eric Jackson became immersed in the world of Jazz in Boston as a teenager. In his three decades as part of the WGBH family, Jackson has been recognized by the Massachusetts College of Art as one of the "100 most culturally influential Bostonians of the 20th century, " by The Berklee College of Music for "advancing careers in music, " and by Jazzweek, the leading jazz radio trade publication, as a "living legend." An active promoter of jazz throughout New England and across the country, Jackson regularly lectures on the genre and hosts live jazz concerts and events. He has taught at Simmons and Wheelock Colleges and at Northeastern University on both the history of jazz and the history of African American music. Jackson was instrumental in developing exhibits for the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City, Missouri.
