Am I the only JC member who's been to Las Vegas?
I"m sure I"m not.
I lived in Reno for five months a long time ago. I've only been to Vegas three times but plan to return.

I've been quite a few times. All related to business, but with plenty of time to check out the nightlife.

Then why ask? I'd be surprised if JC's attendance differed markedly from the random populace, and it's pretty easy to find people who've been to Vegas.
I've been once, and that only last summer, for a bachelor party weekend. Never once gambled tho.

I was in Vegas twice. The first time was in the late 70's. I was by myself, kinda making my way east from Calf., I had very little money. At the time I thought it was the least disappointing place I had ever been. It really had a feel back then of anything goes as long as you don't annoy anyone else. You never had to pay for a drink even at the bar. The food was dirt cheep. You could wander around and watch lounge acts for free. I met almost every Vegas stereotype there was at that time. I took some acid I happen to have as a sort of paean to "Fear and Loathing" which made a strange place seem even stranger but not frightening. And to top it off saw Dion Warwick in passing and I said hi and she said hi back.
The 2nd time there was on the way back from a business trip with some work people about 7 or 8 years ago. This was when Vegas was trying to be a family kind of place, it had a totally different vibe and I thought it sucked.

Probably 50 times but never as a chosen point of destination. I have many memories of it from my childhood. My parents used to get in terrible fights there.

Been there a few times, last time for a Callerlab Convention. I was training for one of the two Napa Valley Marathons I've run, and spent most nights running up and down the strip between 11 and 1 am (prime time in Vegas), dodging tourists.

Gordon -- My old time music crew used to hang out across the hills from Reno in Silver City and Dayton, NV. I spend three winters there. I loved it then. They tell me it's all changed now. Can't go home again.

I was in Vegas once, at the old Riviera hotel, with my parents on our "Chevy Chase/Vacation" drivng tour across the country and back (summer of '65) . One other time I was in the airport on a layover (it counts because I lost money in the slots).
I've pretty much decided it would depress me to spend time there. From my limited experience in New Orleans, Atlantic City and Montreal, I'm pretty sure I can't stand casinos. The electronic noise feels like the soundtrack to a nightmare.

Rural northern Nevada's a whole different thing, though. It's nice out there. And you can always get a drink, even a "go cup." Some hotshot western musicians and bands. Slots are everywhere, so far as I could tell. Maybe even in churches for all I know. They were everywhere else.

Only been there once, when I was 19. A good friend of mine and I spent a few weeks on the road that August. We made it to Vegas on a straight drive from Laramie, Wyoming, which I guess is around 800 miles or so. I had slept for a total of maybe 6 hours in the previous 3 days we were in Laramie, so I was feeling pretty looped. I'll never forget the glow of Vegas rising in the distance as we drove through the desert in the middle of the night. We got there at dawn, too early to check into a motel, so we went to a Denny's to eat and kill time. Shortly after we got there, a wedding party came in. Welcome to Vegas.

My first job out of college was working for the company that produced the COMDEX trade show, which takes over the city every November. It's been sold several times since then, but I've spent many days walking the various hotel exhibition halls.
Biggest highlight was being taken by one of the owners of the company to see a Sammy Davis, Jr. show.
Otherwise, I could easily avoid the city for the rest of my life.

I do. A good friend of mine married a Nevada hooker and she was awesome. I liked her a lot. It's the oldest profession, as they say. I'd bet the oldest is shaman/priesthoods, though, really.
