Hey I think I've seen this movie before

There's US Marines under fire
a fluid frontline, soldiers in quagmire
an enemy that wont stay still
always firing from a mound or hill
though outgunned they still fight
in awful weather,day or night
while at home the generals bleat
the opposition proving hard to beat
but we're winning, check the stats
we've killed more of the other cats
and networks like CBS and NBC
demonise the enemy
the conflict fills more body bags
images of cemetaries and folded flags
returning boy soldiers home
never more to leave or roam
meanwhile B fifty twos flying high
drop bombs while they pass by
there's troops maimed or killed by friendly fire
and by their own weapons misfire
and the TV showing refugees in flight
a ragged sad and unholy sight
and the hospitals with injured children
with little medicine to help them
and I read somewhere, I think from reuters
that some marine fragged his betters
you know I think I've seen this movie
and from my recall it wasn't real groovy
I can't remember the title, damn
oh yes, I know, it was VIETNAM

PEACE ALL - no more killing in GOD's Name I pray for US Soldiers, British soldiers and the Australian soldiers in the gulf - and for the Iraqis

HenryMc,

When this hostile take-over began [by our own republican guard in the US] the song It's A Mistake [by a band from your country; Men At Work] kept rolling 'round in my head.

No oil well left behind.

Men at Work

It's a Mistake

Jump down the shelters to get away
The boys are cockin' up their guns
Tell us general, is it party time?
If it is can we all come

Don't think that we don't know
Don't think that we're not trying
Don't think we move too slow
It's no use after crying
Saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

After the laughter as died away
And all the boys have had their fun
No surface noise now, not much to say
They've got the bad guys on the run

Don't try to say you're sorry
Don't say he drew his gun
They've gone and grabbed old Ronnie
He's not the only one saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

Tell us commander, what do you think?
'Cos we know that you love all that power
Is it on then, are we on the brink?
We wish you'd all throw in the towel

We'll not fade out too soon
Not in this finest hour
Whistle your favourite tune
We'll send a card and flower
Saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

Thank you Henry and Tim.
I think, once again, that the inmates have taken over the asylum.

I weep, because there's nothing else to do. Even when the people say "NO" to war, it doesn't matter. Glory? For whom??

Dead everywhere. Dead children. The soldiers, on both sides, are the same age as my youngest daughter. Children not long ago.
This is madness, surely. We'll wake up and it will have been "a mistake", a bad dream.
Sadly, not.
What struck me was the comment of one of the coalition soldiers who asked, "This is so one-sided. Why don't they just give up?" while surveying the dead.
Why indeed?
I'm no admirer of Saddam Hussein, but, these are CHILDREN.

I have been considering your question sal

Last call for alcohol.
Last call for your freedom of speech.
Drink up. Happy hour is now enforced by law.
Don't forget our house special
It's called a Trickie Dickie Screwdriver.
It's got one part Jack Daniels, two parts purple Kool-Aid,
and a jigger of formaldehyde
from the jar with Hitler's brain in it we got in the back storeroom.
Happy trails to you
Happy trails to you

I am Emperor Ronald Reagan
Born again with fascist cravings
Still, you made me president

Human rights will soon go 'way
I am now your Shah today
Now I command all of you
Now you're going to pray in school
I'll make sure they're Christian too

California Uber alles
California Uber Alles
Uber alles California
Uber alles California

Ku Klux Klan will control you
Still you think it's natural
Nigger knockin' for the master race
Still you wear the happy face

You closed your eyes, can't happen here
Alexander Haig is near
Vietnam won't come back you say
Join the army or you will pay

California Uber alles
California Uber alles
Uber alles California
Uber Alles California

Yeah, that's it. Just relax.
Have another drink, few more pretzels, little more MSG.
Turn on those Dallas Cowboys on your TV.
Lock your doors
Close your mind.
It's time for the two-minute warning.

Welcome to 1984
Are you ready for the third world war?!?
You too will meet the secret police
They'll draft you and they'll jail your niece

You'll go quitely to boot camp
They'll shoot you dead
Make you a man
Don't you worry, it's for a cause
Feeding global corporations' claws

Die on our brand new poison gas
El Salvador or Afghanistan
Making money for President Reagan
And all the friends of President Reagan

California Uber alles
California Uber alles
Uber alles California
Uber Alles California

Seriously Would you have thought in 2003 that US Soldiers would still be dying every day in Iraq in 2005?
