wimbledon even money??

the men play a best of five set match. the women play best of three set match. if the women are getting equal money, which i am not opposed to, shouldn't be play an equal amount of sets as the men.

I don't think many people would like to see five-set matches on the women's circuit.

The whole issue of equal prize money for men and women is ridiculous, since equal treatment does not exist in professional sports anyway. It's the market that determines the prize money of the whole circuit, and if less people want to see women's games, there will be fewer sponsors and less money to distribute among the players.

The women players just use the argument of equal treatment to get more money in the few tournaments with both male and female competitions.

The women's game is far more interesting and competitive right now than the men's.

It sure is.

If not for Federer, the men's game would be especially dismal. Power hitters like Roddick would dominate, and points would last a few seconds.

In tennis, I don't think it's a guarantee that the guys draw more. The female athletes seem just as popular.

I agree, the woman's game is better. Also, I prefer three-set matches to five, there's more suspense throughout.

There's more to the game than Federer, though it's true power hitting has turned tennis into a bit of a snooze. I've been playing a lot lately, and it's interesting to look around and see guys in their 50s with bum knees whacking balls around as if they were 25. Today's racquets allow it.

Equipment has so radically changed the game from a time when it was much more interesting that, while I still watch, it's hard to have the passion for today's players that I did for the guys of my youth.

It always makes me feel a little ickily sexist, but I admit I find the equal pay/equal time argument has logical appeal. Not that I would the shielas to play five setters, mind you. I found a much higher percentage of the women's Oz Open games compelling, as opposed to the men, and I'd agree that the three-set dynamics were part of the reason.
