Hi Guys!!!
Hi Guys!
I've been a member for nearly a month now,and have just realised that I've been so busy reading your lovelly posts, that I have totally forgotten to introduce myself :P Hi guys,my name is Harris!
I enjoy Jazz alot,I head down to my local wine bar every saturday night to listen to my favourite Jazz group whack out what they've got.My mates and I play a bit of poker(all friendly),have a couple of drinks, sit back and relax. It's my special treat after a heavy week at work.
I stroll home then around 3am and kick back some more
What are your interests outside jazz? How do you like to relax?
Harris

"Well, who's at the door?"
"Some guy. Says his name is Harris."
"What does he want?"
"Not sure. Just came round to introduce himself."
"Are you going to invite him in?"
"Not sure. Afraid he's going to try to sell me something, or ask me to go for a walk with him at 3am."
"Well, you can't just leave him waiting out there. Invite him in or tell him to piss off."
"OK. So, uh, Harris, you want to come in? Just so you know, we only discuss important things here, like boners and what we're eating for lunch. So if you want to stay, conduct yourself accordingly. Welcome to Jazz Corner."

I like the way harris wears his threads. Maybe he can add something to our gerbil knowledge.
harris, my man, there is one place on this board where we actually discuss jazz.
One would never know from the Alley that this actually happens.

Does anybody remember "The Chair" at JCS, and how people would accidentally click on the chair and then post "where am I and how did I get here"?

If I'm not typing here, I'm pretty much catatonic. I like a glass of wine now and again--one every 10 minutes seems about right. I would abuse illegal drugs constantly, except I don't have any contacts among the lumberjacks who get me facts when someone attacks my imagination. But nobody has any respect, anyway they already expect me to all give a check to tax-deductible charity organizations.
Really, it's a problem.

Hi Harris.
I like wine and drugs too. I also like gerbils, powdered Tang, retsin and making posts with the word Taliban and/or the word boner. Because of my subtitle being "Sphincterene Spokesperson" people sometimes mistakenly think I like typing the word sphincter. However, this is actually the first time I've typed it. Thanks for the opportunity.

For relaxation, I usually just sit.
Hey, where did Harris go?
Harris . . . oh, Harris.
Sure, I remember "The Chair" at JCS.
Oh, and another thing I like to do for relaxation is to ramble.
Welcome, Harris.
Later.

Afraid not. In order to access the JCS equivalent of our Speakeasy, you had to click on a picture of a chair on the side of the screen, which would take you to a place called "The Chair", where people talked about everything other than jazz. It wasn't something that was obvious at all, so people used to stumble upon it by accident, and it was like they walked out of a very dark cave and into bright sunlight when they did.

Let's start a "hot seat" then.
Who sits first?

I wasn't trying to say anything of value. If I was, I would have found a way to get the words sphincter and boner in there.
Good point.

What's funny is I never posted in The Chair on JCS. I thought it was ridiculous coming to a jazz board and talking about everything but jazz. It annoyed me that people posted more to The Chair forum than the actual jazz one.
Look at me now. Hilarious.

Exactly.
It was rude, it was insistent, it was irreverent, it was sexist and, above all, it was the place to be on Jazz Central Station if you wanted to kick somebody's ass. [Guys like Surfer would have been summarily destroyed on that forum.]
It is the single most compelling reason why it took me a great long while to tone my sh-, er....stuff down a bit to fit in with this thing called The Alley [on this BBS] once in a while.
The Chair was a rough place to post but it was awesome.

Actually, wasn't Harris the guy who designed the entire graphic appeal of the JCS website?
For the life of me I can't conjure up Harris' last name. I only remember that it was distinctive.

No, not at all. In fact, I seriously doubt it.
Dr. Dave simply mentioned that Harris was the name of a designer of JCS, thus the connection. It's a bit of an unusual name, especially a first name.

Wow, I googled Jill, and found this. I vaguely remembered that somebody had studied JCS as an example of an online community:
A research paper about JazzCentralStation.
Dig the date: 1998!

Here's an interesting little read complete with a graphic that depicts "The Chair".
