John Inman (Mr Humphries) - R.I.P. -- "I'm Free!" At Last
Sadness! Comic actor John Inman died this week in London at age 71. He is famous as Mr Humphries from the long-running British television comedy, Are You Being Served?

Captain Peacock and Mrs. Slocumb were apparently unavailable for comment.
This was a big staple on WGBH when Mrs. Tricky was going through law school; she'd pull in just before midnight and for some reason (probably having to do with a cable-free household at that point) wound up getting hooked on the show for a semester or so.
RIP, you who made me laugh.

What a loss!! Loved his character. Watching "Are You Being Served?" is one of my guilty pleasures.
RIP Mr Inman.

My favorite AYBS? line is delivered by Mrs Slocombe who rings up her neighbor: "Oh hello, I wonder if you'd do me a favor? Would you run over to my house and peek thru the mail slot and if you see my pussy, would you drop in a sardine?"
Roll of the eyes from Mr Humphries.

I used the term, although I guess they do too, as do we. Many French words and phrases have become part of our everyday speech, as English words and phrases have become part of theirs.

I've gone through periods where I enjoyed AYBS, and periods where it annoyed me. Hadn't watched it in years, but Inman always made me laugh. The show had the biggest collection of bad teeth, weird ears, and bad hair that I've ever seen.

Even though it was one of the most hokey shows ever, we always watched AYBS just for the great performances by John Inman and Molly Sugman.

They're English.
It's a lot like the news footage of tornado and hurricane survivors who apparently all live in trailer parks in the U.S.

Are Republicans allowed to like homosexuals? Or only those you can laugh at?

Miss Brahms has joined John Inman at that great Grace Brothers in the sky.
Wendy Richard, MBE, actress, was born on July 20, 1943. She died of cancer on February 26, 2009, aged 65

I'm starting to worry about you, Monte.
I used to go out with a girl whose father was a dead ringer for Mr Rumbold.

Jug Ears! Now I'm going to have the Grace Bros elevator music/AYBS? theme in my head all day. Again.
