Lois- is there a trick to posting longer replies? Tonight I was unable to post twice, while attempting a longer reply to a current thread.
Thanks in advance-Paul Cohen

rpcjazz-

Obviously I'm not Lois, but I've never had any problem with the length of a post. There are restrictions on the number of characters for a Private Message, but none for a post in a forum, as far as I'm aware. And, there are no "tricks".

Could you please provide a bit more detail?

What message did you receive?

What was the thread to which you were unable to respond?

problems with long replys

Rod: I was compiling a list of musicians that I had seen at concerts. Since I've been around a few years the list was getting quite long. On two seperate tries the list vanished before I had the opportunity to "submit". It's a shame. It was a nice list......pc

Paul--

I'm not Lois either, but as a practical matter, I suggest that you compose your list in MSWord, WordPad, NotePad, etc.--any word processor or text editor--and Save the list in your computer. Then Paste the list into JC's Post Reply form. That way the list won't be lost.

When the list vanishes, are you getting any kind of error message or being taken from the Post Reply form to some other page? If not, I don't think that doing something different in JC would help.

Paul,

Neither Lois nor I deleted any posts in those threads during the past week. (Or probably not ever, but I didn't look earlier than one week back.)

Tell me why I shouldn't like smooth jazz! - You deleted one of your posts with the note that it was a dup. You then posted another dup, which is still there. A response from Groover is also still there, if that's the one you mean. See #26, #32, #33 (Groover's response), and #34.

Who Have You Seen In Concert? - You deleted one of your posts with the note that it was a dup. You then posted another dup, which is still there. See #100 and #103.

Respected Artists Who Don't Do Much For You - See #273, #274, #275, #276 (a response), #277 (a response), and #281 (your rewrite of what you'd posted in #275).

Do you see all those posts now? Does that cover the posts that disappeared?

Conclusion -You're not seeing your own posts! You may be seeing a cached (old) version of the page instead of the latest version, and so your new post doesn't appear.

Suggestions -

To see the latest version of the page on a one-time basis,

CTRL + Refresh/Reload or CTRL + F5
Then look for your post.

To see the latest version of the page every time,

Tools - Internet Options - General - Temporary Internet files - Settings - Check for newer versions of stored pages - Select "Every visit to the page" or "Automatically" - OK - OK

That's for IE6. Look for something similar if you're using IE7. Let us know if you need instructions for a different browser.

Please let us know if you still need help.

Rachel: Thanks for your effort: On Tell me why I shouldn't like smooth jazz!I see #26, but #32 & #33 are missing.
On the other two threads the messages stop @#30 (on both).
Using the Refresh controll interfers with my wireless conection and Tools-etc is already configured as you recommend. ( I'm not sure wha IE6 means )
Thanks, Paul

Paul,

IE6 means Internet Explorer version 6.

As I wrote, you're not seeing posts that are there. Are you clicking on the next page number to see the next page of a thread? If so, then Refreshing is the only solution I know of.

I'll bring the posts about your problem to Lois's attention, but she's been dealing with family health matters, so please continue to be patient.

The easiest way to save info, when you're having this problem, and, to transfer it to a thread, is write to yourself and send it to yourself, make copies by forwarding these letters to youself, then drag them over to the thread you want to post in. I find this to be the easiest way, and if it gets too long, I send more than one letter to myself, like some history I've copied, it was way too long so this worked for me.

An easy way to save a page is have the page up you want to save. Click on the WRITE to send a letter on your own tool bar, not JC's private message.

Put your cursor starting where you want to save the info from. Right click to turn the area blue. then: Left click holding down the button, dragging it over the information you want to save will turn the area blue with white letters. or you can:
RIGHT CLICK and a window will appear and then LEFT CLICK on SELECT ALL All of the page will turn blue and white. It will turn dark blue with white letters. RELEASE, then where you want to save, holding down the left click button, you can then , Left click to turn it back to normal, To drag it must be blue.
drag it to your own mail, by holding down your left button release and it should be there.

Then send it to your self, and save to your own files, or better yet save to an online storage area, this way if yiou have a crash, it should always be there for you. You can also print it up or save it to a CD. It's pretty easy. Just practice it with something you aren't afraid of losing. Don't do it on the reply board as it will disappear, but you can always drag it back once you've sent it to yourelf. Just practice with one of the existing posts. It's really the easiest, this way you can do it in sections, if you'd like. Write to yourself and then send yourself copies, just forward them to yourself, send more than one and then drag the copy to the board, to the reply window. This is the easiest.

Interrupted too many times for this to flow right, it's too hard to understand I would imagine. It really is quite easy to do though.

I'll do up an easier version by writing it in my own mail, checking it out before I post it, this is a mess.

Type up the information you would like to post in your own WRITE letter window with your own server.

Once typed up, send yourself the information, to your own email box. For transferring, send yourself a forward. then you can use either letter for posting.

Do it by RIGHT Clicking; A window will drop in and then:
LEFT Click on Select All.
.....The page will turn a dark blue,
.....Then with your post reply window open on the thread you want to post to, LEFT Click, and while still HOLDING DOWN the button, you will be able to drag your information to the thread, to their window. You can also save information from any sight that allows it, to your email the same way. Photo's etc. I like to save some art work, etc. It's easy to do, and quick.

Hope this is better.

To copy just a section of an article, put your cursor up above or to the left of the item to be copied, then LEFT CLICK and keeping the button depressed, drag the cursor across and down to where you want the copying process to end. Release and then to transer, hold the left button down again and drag to where you want it to go. Release and it should be where you want it to be. Just left click then and it will be back to it's original coloring.

I believe Sandi is addressing the problem described in #1 (trouble posting long posts). See #6 for the problem currently being discussed.

I didn't understand the terms you were using and since he didn't either, this way works for computer dummies like me.

Once the interruptions stopped or somewhat stopped, it made it easier to try to explain my little foolproof method.

for Rachel & Sandi, and eveyone else who noticed: There must be a god. I found my posts (some were duplicated, so I realy look stupid). It was my error, not the sight's or my hardware. Don't ask, it's too embarrassing.(Something that Rachel said easily corrected the problem.)

Thanks again, pc

A title you choose is called a Custom User Title. (A signature is something else.)

Menu at the top of the page - leftmost item: User CP (Control Panel)

Settings & Options

Edit Profile

"Optional Information - All information will be viewable by other forum members"

Custom User Title

Enter your chosen title in the blank space.

Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page and click "Save Changes."

Would someone help me set this font size and type as a default?

Is this easier on the eyes? I could go down to this size if it's less objectionable.

Unfortunately, one can't set a font size, typeface, or color (etc.) as a default. You'll have to click on your choices in every post. (The only default is "the" default.)

As someone who occasionally catches hell for my choices (from the same few people), I'm inclined to say, "Use whatever specs you want!"

Thanks Rita. I enabled the enhanced html feature and thought that would do the trick but here I am again, Veranda #2.

By "the enhanced html feature," I guess you mean this one in Edit Options:

Actual HTML is a different story--the board's software uses equivalents. HTML has been enabled in most but not all of JC's forums. For example, it's Off in this forum, as you'll see at the bottom left of the forum:

vB code is On
Smilies are On
[IMG] code is On
HTML code is Off

I've been meaning to request that Lois Gilbert (who runs JC) turn on HTML in the few forums in which it's not already enabled.

If you do use HTML codes (which one has to type in manually)
in a post,

--Every time you edit the post, you'll have to reinsert the HTML codes.

--If people quote your post, the quote won't include anything that you did using HTML.

Also, on the top right of the "posting form," you'll see a little box containing this:

That's a toggle switch for showing/not showing the coding in the post. Check it out; I think you'll find it useful.
