I'm envious! I hear they play very loud too? Zeno Beach is one of the best rock releases this year. Their album craps all over many from younger bands ('scuse the pun).

Oh, yeah. It was LOUD.
So loud, in fact, that I had trouble recognizing some of the tunes at first. Deniz even blew out one of his Marshalls.

I guess this speaks to the volume (from their website):
We're very sorry to announce this, but our show in Gothenburg has been cancelled. We apologise to all our fans who will be disappointed and inconvenienced by this. The venue has a noise meter and we have been given unrealistic levels of volume which we are told is the law of the land in Sweden. There is a hefty fine for breach of this law that is so great it has been decided not to play since it is 100% certain that the law would be broken.

Sure did. That's a good CD too and love the first track in particular. I saw him a WOMAD festival a few years back. He was electrifying.

Just found about something that's kind of sick and twisted, and yet interesting and possibly brilliant. Best of all it's a free download. Basically, this guy combined elements of Pet Sounds and Sgt. Pepper, track by track:

01. Wouldn’t Sgt. Petsound Be Nice?
02. You Still Believe in My Friends
03. That’s Not Lucy
04. Don’t Talk (Get Better)
05. I’m Fixing It, Dayhole
06. She’s Going Away for Awhile
07. Being for the Benefit of Sloop John B!
08. God Only Knows What I’d Be Within You
09. I Know There’re Sixty-Four Answers
10. Today, Rita
11. I Just Wasn’t Made for Good Mornings
12. Sgt. Petsound’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprieve)
13. A Day in the Life of Caroline
14. Runout Groove

Then there's this guy, who made an mp3 of every song from Pet Sounds playing AT THE SAME TIME.

Scott, it was issued for the first time on CD in '04. It is much expanded over the LP and very, very good.

While out in Wyoming, an oldtime pal (who has the second best record collection I've ever seen and has been steeped in this stuff since the 50s) had me write down two titles that were necessary to have from the Old Hat label, knowing how much I've loved this stuff myself for closing on 40 years, because he was one of the cats who helped immerse me in it and its traditions many years ago:

v/a -- Down In The Basement: Joe Bussard's Treasure Trove of Vintage 78s 1926-1937

v/a -- Violin, Sing The Blues For Me: African-American Fiddlers 1926-1949

Both arrived a couple of days ago and are simply excellent. The Bussard collection I'd have bought immediately without a rec had I known about it, as everyone in record collecting world knows who he is. He's the king of collectors, with over 25,000 78s, and all of them prime collector's material. He owns the only known copy of one and has been offered 10 grand for it. He wouldn't sell it, making it the most expensive record to date.

Both CDs are choice compilations, though, using the best sources and digitized with great care. Down In The Basement has absolutely the cleanest, clearest version of one of my old favorites, Charley Jordan's "Keep It Clean," that I've ever heard, along with many other treasures, many of them rare even with the seemingly endless comps that come out.

Adam, Do you know these? Both are right up your alley. I'm on a forced music withdrawal plan myself, things are tight around here, so from here on I'm going to be listening to a whole lot of music I own, and playing about with the burner to make compilations and stuff. Nothing but emusic for good while around here.
