Post Chord progressions

I need a good chord progression (like I7 /IV/II7 /V7 /I7 .) If you know a good one then please post it here.

TK:

for starters, check out the basic tritone substitution:

for : I ma7/ IV ma 7/IIImi 7 / VImi7 etc

try: Ima7 / bV mi75b VII7 / III mi 7 etc

Also , investigate the diminished scales: both whole/half step ( Cdim7 +C#dim7 run as a scale ) and half /whole step ( Cdim7+Ddim7 same way )

also: get a copy of "JAZZ THEORY" by Mark Levine ..his webpage is on JC ..

have fun

i personally play a lot of I-II-V progression solo,
it is very basic and very interesting.
you can change it to:
I-II-III-bIII-II-V
or
I-II-bII
or
III-VI-II-V-Vb9

and different patterns of I-VI-II-V turnarounds,
they are interesting sometime.

dear gray pencil,

I wrote an upbeat 3/4 tune using your nifty chord progressions (w/ a couple dim chords thrown in), and I just wanted to thank you personally.

SO, thank you! ! We'll perform the tune at the NYC Marathon on Nov. 2. People have had fun blowing over those changes, seems to kinda take them by surprise, and I like that of course :-)

Chords are my biggest weakness, how embarrassing, I suppose it's because I can only play one note at a time (multiphonic excepted). I churn out melodies constantly but when it comes to chords, I hardly know where to begin. So, I love to steal 'em. ;-)

Fluter:

Yore welcome ..always glad to help

another trick to try on a tag turnaround like:

IImi7 V9b III mi75b VI 9b IImi7 etc ...

is to substitute for the last two changes:

IImi7 V9b ( III 7/13 ..bVII13 /11# ..IIImi7 over VI bass note ..Vi13 9b ).. IImi 7 etc

this works best when the melody note in the tag is the third ....

Fluter,

What's the name of the song? Could be something traditional like "GP's Waltz" or something wackier like "A gray pencil never needs sharpening".

Harold:

check out the Coda Technology website ..I'm very
sure it's ported to both Mac and PC

failing that, Google " Finale 2003"

reply to Chord prog.

Here's a pattern I like....
Amb5 D7b9 Gm7 C9 :/ Cm7 F9 BbM7 Eb9 Amb5 D7b9 Gm7 C9 It's a salsa riff so start with the 7th on the bottom etc GCEb F#AEb F(Bb)D E(Bb)D etc...
Then take the right hand & move it up a third & it really sounds cool...
