There you go, Gordon. Seriously upsetting JC listers with SAT scores lower than Bush's.

That's just the score of the smartest person Dubya knew who would accept money to take the test for him.

When he was first running, Bush's Yale profs still around said he got by on "gentlemen's C's." Today, with grade inflation, they'd be "gentlemen's A minuses."

How do they score them today? My nephew got an impossible score in the system I remember, if the number my mother told me is correct. What's a maximum score today?
Bush probably got his numbers from the cheerleading section.

Same scores for the basic tests -- my friend's son got a perfect 1600 last year, on a full ride to Brown this year.

The test was rescaled in 1995. Giuliani's 569V and 504M would scale to approximately 639V and 529M today.
There is an essay section on the current version of the SAT so a perfect score would be 2400 but the essay part is not given much weight at all by colleges. I think it's more prevalent to quote one's Math+Verbal, like Steve's friend's son.
The Bush in question is GWB. He scored 640M 566V.
The tests meant more back in the day when there were no SAT prep classes.
FWIW, my 11th grade daughter takes her SAT's on Saturday. I've been studying the college admissions process over the last couple of months. It's very interesting stuff to me.

I never took SATs, Scott. I didn't finish high school because expelled. I took the GED, however, and scored in the 98th percentile. I attended what was at the time the hardest military school and managed to pass, though pretty low in the class. I had never taken a higher math course in my school years, and so had to learn math and electronic theory at the same time or flunk out. If you flunked out -- there was a test every ten days you couldn't flunk -- you spent the next year standing lonely Loran watches on Attu, in Alaska, or some like isolated station. So, every ten days was make and break. It was, academically, the equivalent of a two year technical college curriculum in electronics theory but covered in only six months.
I went to college as an adult on the GI Bill, and finished at age 41 on my own dime. SATs were irrelevant. My GPA when I received my BA was 3.26, with two whole semesters of zeroes averaged in, times when I'd quit school so didn't finish the semesters. Every semester I finished, I made either the Dean's or the President's list.

The guy you rightwingers hate, Chuck Schumer, got a 1600.
And Pete C's favorite artist, Andy Warhol, had an IQ of 86.
I always knew Gore Vidal was exaggerating when he said this:
"Andy Warhol is the only genius I've ever known with an I.Q. of 60."
I was told when I was a kid my IQ was 146:
Sharon Stone
IQ Score 154
Jayne Mansfeld
IQ Score 149
Rollhead
IQ Score 146
George W. Bush
IQ Score 125
Ronald Reagan
IQ Score 105
George H.W. Bush
IQ Score 98
