Both of you should get back to us when you hit the big 6-0 and let us scrutinize your faces.

Has anyone else noticed how much alike he and Wolfowitz look? In some photos of Wolfodimwitz, he looks enough alike to be Bush's brother. More than his brother does, actually.
Every president of my lifetime (except Kennedy, obviously, not having had time), however, has seemed to age much more dramatically in a relatively short time than most people do.
It's a suck job, really, when you think about it. A wonder anyone would want it. To me, wanting it alone is something that gives me pause to wonder about the person's basic mental health.

That's pretty goddamn funny, actually. I've wondered why the hell anyone would want that job.

My kids haven't appeared on the cover of any tabloids, I haven't started any wars, and though I'm about four years older, I think I look a bit younger than ol' Dubya . . . even with my white beard.
Maybe it's connected to the wonders of being a grandparent to three remarkable little characters.

The job definitely ages people. A 60 y.o. guy who runs and stuff as much as Junior, shouldn't be looking that rough yet. He's far from the first. No matter what you think of this or that president's politics, there has to be an inhuman load of responsibility, worry, and frustration weighing on the guy. Couldn't be otherwise, and that shit will age you over six or eight years, doesn't matter who you are.

Not only does he look bad, he is bad!
But to be fair, every president comes out looking much worse than when he went in. It's the toughest job in the world, and it doesn't help matters when you're completely unqualified for it in the first place.

He looks like he knows just exactly how much he has fucked up.
I'm not saying he actually realizes how much he has fucked up, only that he looks like he does.

I've always thought that it's interesting that President Bush's body language and inappropriate smirks and jokes seem to confirm that he is out of the loop, but somehow doesn't know it.
That's what's so scary about him.
He actually seems to believe that he's, as he said recently, the Commander Guy.
That status seems to please him, without actually making him realize that he is the last stop on the train.
His signature can give the go-ahead to actions that will cause death and destruction beyond his, or anyone's wildest imagination.
And yet, he seems oddly out of touch.

But you're a great person, Ron -- you live your life with integrity and a big heart. That's much more than this clown can attest to. Hence, less aging!

I can't stand Bush as much as the next guy but bearing huge responsibilities -- for anyone -- will make its mark on you. Doesn't matter who you are.
Some people really do go whitehaired when stressed beyond a certain limit, which limit of course is different for every individual (far from all soldiers get PTSD, for example). It's not just urban legend.
Stress is a physical thing, not "just" psychological (ignoring that the psychological *is* physical). It takes a real toll.

Clinton went white pretty quickly, really, when you look back on it. It was stranger for me to watch that one because he was the first of my generation to hold the office.
Am I that old? it made think ....
And of course on tv they are often wearing make-up.
Takes the candid shot to catch it, usually.
Well, maybe not with fossils like Dole but ....

Never mind Bush's mother. Now there's a woman who was clearly stressed raising her young. I can only imagine. :-0

A friend of Barbara Bush said in an interview (or in something she wrote), that Barbara Bush went white almost overnight when her daughter was dying.
This thing with George Bush not being able to say certain words, to put them together in coherent sentences, could come from the fact (others have reported) he and his mother never connected. Studies have shown that children who have been ingnored by a parent before the age of 3 or 4 have great difficulty in speaking properly. We know a fellow who has much the same problem, and his mother ignored him for much of his life; up into, and throughout, his adult life. Bright and all, but he does have severe problems when pronouncing certain words.

I hadn't known that about Ms Bush. I'm so disconnected with tv media that the first time I saw her with Poppy Bush on tv, I thought it was his mother. Not kidding. Was I embarassed when it was pointed out to me that she was his wife.

Eisenhower might have looked about the same when he came out of office as when he went it, but while president Ike had a heart attack, was diagnosed with Crohns disease and had a stroke. (He was at one point a 4-pack a day man.)
Don't think he was in the same shape coming out as going in.

After having been the commander of the European Theater, the presidency likely felt like a summer job to Ike. Imagine not just the incredible responsibility and bloodshed and risk and so forth, but also having to balance incredible personalities and egos like Patton and Montgomery et al and keep it all working (and them from attacking each other....). No, thanks.
