Mary Jane, the time has come

I proposed on another thread that it's time marijuana is legalized.

There has been no evidence that grass is more harmful than alcohol or tobacco, in fact may not be as dangerous.

Ther current street sale of grass generates no tax revenues either in sales or income taxes of the growers and sellers. Underground economy and all that.

The prisons are overcrowded with users and sellers of the stuff.

So let's legalize marijuana, tax it like the other "sin" commodities.

The result will be that much of the deficits will be reduced, a big cash crop will be available for the farmers and a helluva lot less folks will be going to the slammer.

Understand, I don't like the stuff, I've tried it and didn't like it.

I do resent that every time I pour myself a taste or fire up a stogie, a big percentage of the costs of those pleasures is taxes.

"Hard" drugs are a different issue all together.

Clinton, I fully agree that it is about time.

from a purely theoretical tax point of view I fully reject your porposal of another "sin" tax". Theoretically, I think I am closer of advocating it being tax deductible like contributions to good causes and health insurance. Practically, I think a modest tax mite be in order.

You would be really mad, if you like to "sex up" your stoogies a lil bit.

People are accostomed to paying $20 per gram, sometimes more here in SoCal for high-grade herb. Legitimized, it could really generate some tax dollars.

THC can be vaporized, which eliminates harmful smoke by-products. By the same token marijuana butter can be prepared and used in cooking.

Hemp products would be another benefit. Paper, for example, could be made in a much more efficient way.

Yo, Oxy, chill.

Pick it, pack it,
Fire it up, Come along,
And take a hit from the bong,
Put the blunt down just for a second,
Don't get me wrong it's not a new method,
Inhale, Exhale,
Just got a ounce in the mail,
I like a blunt or a big fat cone,
But my double barrel bong is gettin' me stoned

As disappointing as it is to say this, I don't believe that we are going to see pot legalized for recreational use in my lifetime, and I'm only a few weeks from 48. It's embarrassing to belong to a culture guided by such wildly irrational superstitions as "booze is ok; pot is the weed of the devil."

I'm sorry to say that I agree with Jazzooo's assessment. America is still far too puritanical to fully embrace uninhibited sexuality, and too ignorant to understand the relatively minimal dangers posed by marijuana, especially when compared with alcohol or cigarettes. The many documented medical benefits of marijuana are another issue. Sad, but true.

Thanks for the grins, Tippy!

Yeah, Clint, you apparently want us all to believe that your avatar represents you smoking a bad stogie while on vacation in Mexico. Right? Did you purchase that disgustingly bad "cigar" in the State of Michoacan, Mexico, by any chance? If so, no wonder the "attitude" and (mostly hidden) shit-eatin' grin, pal.

the ultra cool mr tosh wrote

the ultra hip raggae version:

'legaliiize it, dont criticiiiiize it.'

then dr's smoke it etc. very hip.
now sing along, same melody same rhthym,

the incredebly square republican version or something

' decriminaliiiiiize it, and dont taaax it.'

then brian's next lines would be

I started a thread on this topic sometime back so if you remember it, you know just where I stand.

The war on mj is a waste of time and money.

Canada seems to be way ahead of us on this one!

I'm thotoughly in agreement with Clint , Cookie, and all the other sane people on the BBS ..but , like Doug , I fear we'll never see the likes of such legislationas long as gauleiter Herr Asscroft and his tightass fascist cronies are in control of the weisshaustag ..

It steams me further to observe that up here 15 miles from the border, the DEA is alloted more tax dollars and agents to patrol the unfenced border area between 0 ave ( Canada) and Boundary RD ( USA ) to see how many bags of BC bud are tossed across the drainage ditch that separates the countries than are alloted to the border patrol to keep out really IMPORTANT shit like terrorists, bombs, chemicals, armaments, etc...

I think I need to start hiking along the border ;-)

Commercial hemp is against the law to grow too. Another great cash crop that has value.

The only people really making money on this deal are the lawyers.

That stogie was purchased on Las Gatas beach in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico.

It may have contained some special substances.

I was in a different space-time continuum for some time after smoking it.
