Bonnaroo adds jazz tent
Stefon Harris is one of the jazz musicians scheduled to perform at Bonnaroo. The Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn., is adding a jazz tent to its sprawling festival, sponsored by the renowned Blue Note label.
Stefon Harris, Ravi Coltrane, Robert Glapser and Jacky Terrasson are among the performers slated to play at the festival. It’s scheduled June 14-17 on a 700-acre farm 60 miles southeast of Nashville.
Though jazz performers have appeared at the event in previous years, the festival is known primarily for its rock acts.
Last year Elvis Costello, Radiohead and Tom Petty were among those who played to about 80,000 fans.
The acts slated to perform this year include the newly reunited Police, the White Stripes, Tool, Wilco, Widespread Panic, the Roots, Franz Ferdinand, the Flaming Lips, Ziggy Marley, Dierks Bentley and Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys.
DownBeat magazine will present panel discussions on jazz June 15 and 16 with jazz musicians and others who will discuss legends such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane.
Blue Note Records will sponsor the air-conditioned jazz tent, called “Somethin’ Else.” Photography from the label will be on display.
