Question about Windows Movie Maker
I have (finally) started to post some of my short films online. I have used my HP R607 digital camera with video capability and I know how to import my videos from the camera into Windows Movie Maker.
I do not know, however, how to import videos of mine from a DVD into Windows Movie Maker. Can someone tell me a simple way? And can it be done from within my computer using my computer's CD/DVD player?

Hi Dennis,
I do this all the time for Ayler's website.
DVD to AVI conversion software of some sort.
Then the AVI is imported into Windows Movie Maker.
Unfortunately, I haven't got access to my computer these days and can't remember the name of the converter I use. I will have access again on tuesday, so if nobody answers by then, I'll come back to you on this.

Hey Dennis,
In my limited experience, I've had the best luck using Gordian Knot. The beauty of this freeware program is that it, as the name implies, integrates all of the different software and codecs you will need into one program. I have to admit that I am curious what Jaka uses since I still found this to be a little complicated in the long run. Btw, in general, a good place to go for all things video is videohelp.com

Hi Dennis,
the software I use for ripping files from DVDs is a french freeware called NeoDivx 2006, available in english at the following URL.
It's very simple and handy and can convert either an entire DVD or separate files from it, using the 'NeoRipper' section.
Any help on this, drop me a line.
me wag's suggestion looks fine too, even if I guess GK is a little more complicated (from what I've seen of it). However, it seems there's a handy 'frontend' for it: AutoGK, described as " simplifying the DVD to AVI/DivX/XviD conversion process for people new to Gordian Knot and overwhelmed by the vast options".
my 2 cents,
stephane

Thanks, mw. I went to the website yesterday and need to read a bit and explore. Sounds like it could work, if I can get an idea of what they are talking about!

Thank you much for the link and for looking into this for me. I'll go there today and look. I've been using my little video camera to shoot directly from the screen, and then coordinating the stereo soundtrack. It's very artsy-looking, but limited, and after a while, as mtaylorjazz says, it will make every video "look like it was filmed in 1895 or sumthin'".

THE LATEST MEDIAPLAYER SHOULD BE ABLE TO "RIP" THE VIDEOS THAT YOU WANT TO CONVERT FROM THE DVD. FROM THERE YOU CAN JUST PULL THEM IN TO MOVIEMAKER. I NEVER LOAD VIDEOS. I JUST DROP SOME STILLS AND A FEW LINES OF SUPERS AND THE TRACK, WMA, MP3, WAVE, BUT IT CAN'T DO THE NEW M4A AAC FORMAT YET. YOU NEED NERO 7 TO DO THAT. I LIKE NERO 7 FOR SOME THINGS. KEEP THOSE GREAT VIDEOS FOR THE MARKETTING PEOPLE. THEY ARE INVALUABLE, I THINK. WHY JUST GIVE THEM AWAY. I NEVER POST LIVE ACTION VIDEO'S UNLESS THEY ARE TAKEN BY THE FAMILY OR SOMETHING.

AND POST THEM ON JAZZCORNER AND WAIT FOR PEOPLE TO TELL ME HOW BAD THEY ARE (BECAUSE THEY ARE)
I NEVER GET TIRED OF POSTING IN ALL CAPS ESPECIALLY WHEN I FEEL INSULTED ABOUT MY MUSIC THAT I HAVE THRUST UPON PEOPLE UNWILLINGLY.
WHEN THEY TELL ME HOW BAD IT IS I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULDN'T.
