Michael Brecker Jazz Award
Friday, June 8, 2007 was the presentation of the first annual Michael Brecker Jazz Award and scholarship to a deserving music student at the High school that Michael attended and from which he graduated....Cheltenham High School. It is took place at the Cheltenham Arts Center, 439 Ashbourne Road, Cheltenham, PA The ticket proceeds will go to the Time Is Of The Essence Fund, which was the title of a Brecker composition, and is the fund for stem cell leukemia research (myeloplastic syndrome) created by Michael, his wife, Susan, and his family.
Jazz legend Michael Pedicin was a surprise guest for the students and audience, and performed 2 of Michael Brecker's compositions with the H.S. band. Pedicin also made the award presentation with Brecker's sister, Emily, to the deserving student. Pedicin was also brought up to say a few words about Brecker, as they were very good friends since they were kids.
