Cunard Line is the official Cruise Line of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Sponsor of the Tanglewood Jazz Festival
The Boston Symphony Orchestra has announced the addition of jazz pianist, Renee Rosnes, to the 2007 Tanglewood Jazz Festival lineup. Ms. Rosnes will be the special guest of Marian McPartland for the live taping of “Piano Jazz” for NPR.
Canadian pianist and composer Renee Rosnes has earned major
international acclaim since she first relocated from Vancouver to
New York City in 1986. Having toured and recorded with many of the greatest masters, her resume reads like a who's who of jazz including work with Joe Henderson, JJ Johnson, Wayne Shorter, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, James Moody, and Bobby Hutcherson, among others. Ms. Rosnes has released a series of nine musically imaginative recordings on the Blue Note label, which have garnered four Juno Awards. She is also a founding member of the San Francisco Jazz Collective, an all-star octet currently featuring saxophonist Joe Lovano and trumpeter Dave Douglas.
Returning again this year is the popular Jazz Café, an informal, cabaret style venue that features new up-and-coming talent. This year’s artists in the Jazz Café are Italian vocalist, song writer and pianist, Chiara Civello; New York based vocalist, songwriter, and bandleader, Sachal Vasandani; Cuban pianist and Berklee College of Music graduate, Aruan Ortiz; Boston-based saxophonist, Grace Kelly; Colombian jazz harpist, Edmar Casteneda; and French jazz vocalist, Mina Agossi.
This year for the first time, an all-day lawn pass for Saturday and Sunday will be available for $33 per day.
The full lineup includes Kurt Elling, Randy Crawford and Joe Sample, the Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band, Hank Jones, Roberta Gambarini, Ahmad Jamal, Jimmy Heath, Hugh Masekela, Kevin Mahogany, Red Holloway, Cyrus Chestnut, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Romero Lubambo, Leny Andrade, the Maria Schneider Orchestra, Kathy Kosins and the Chuck Bergeron Trio.
Cunard Line, whose fleet comprises The Most Famous Ocean Liners in the World (SM), Queen Mary 2 and QE2, and the newest royal, Queen Victoria, comes aboard for the first time as the official cruise line and sponsor of the 2007 Tanglewood Jazz Festival. During its storied 167-year history, Cunard’s renowned ships have transported society’s luminaries, notables, and famed artists around the world in unrivaled style. Sumptuous surroundings and the line’s legendary White Star Service (SM) have made Cunard the preferred choice of luxury travel for generations.
