Free Ringtones?!?
Anyone know of a link to free ringtones for your cellphone?
I have no intention of paying $19.99 for a stupid collection of ringtones, but I'm happy to take them for free.

I hate most ringtones I hear in public, so make no guarantees about any of these, RBS. Having said that, and since I won't likely hear yours any time soon, here are a couple of links.

Some jazz ringtones
More jazz ringtones
I'll be interested to know if any of these hit the mark, Randy.
Our ringtone is that of an old school phone ringing.

Thanks, Ron. I never dl'd them before, but I think I'll use this one for a while. It's actually pretty good, light on the cheese department, heavy on accordion synth.

Thanks, Ron.
Leave it to you to find something I can use. I hate those obnoxious ringtones, too.
I'm hoping to find one that isn't annoying and has a nice little jingle to it.
Thanks again!

Why buy them? I've created all of mine from CDs in my collection. All you need to do is rip your favorite music to mp3, edit it down to a 30 second snippet (I use a free program called Audacity for that) and then upload these files onto your phone. My favorite is Wayne Shorter's solo from "Free For All".
My wildest ringtone: Van Halen's "Eruption".

Can you give me a clue as to how to do this, or does it depend on the phone? I have Audacity, so I have no problem creating sound files, but there doesn't seem to be any obvious way to upload. All that seems to be available is to buy one of theirs (Verizon).

I have a Verizon LG 8300 phone. I found a tutorial on-line to enable me to get the ringtones onto the phone. I had already bought a 1GB MicroSD memory card (for $9 from buy.com ) so I could use the phone as an mp3 player. I just needed to buy a $10 USB cable on eBay and download a free program called bitpcm, but in the end, it was a breeze. It took maybe 3 minutes.
When I had my Verizon Motorola V710 phone, it was as simple as copying the mp3 files onto the microSD card (into the folder called "Ringtones") and they were there.
Your phone could be as "difficult" as the LG or as simple as the Moto phone. It's too bad you're on Verizon, They make it harder than it has to be.

I have an Audiovox CDM-8600. It has no place for a memory card, doesn't play music, and the manual makes no mention of USB. Oh well. At least it makes phone calls. (Imagine that - using a phone just for phone calls!) My service is up for renewal in September, so I'll be on the lookout for a better phone when I renew.

This one looks pretty cool. Might be kind of clunky to lug around town, though.

Is that a USB cable coming from the back?
And I notice it has a dial, just like Ipods.

I have the same problem. How do you download it into the phone?!?
Can you use any old USB cable?
Ron, I listened to some of those links and they were actually pretty cool. I'd download a few onto my phone, but I'm not good at osmosis.

RBS-
I don't know which phone/provider you're using, which is an important starting point. I'm not a wizard on these things, but I can usually find a resource, where necessary.
First, I believe that you need to download it to your computer before uploading it to your phone.
USB or Firewire?
Help, please.

What phone do you have? The Howard Forums are the first place to look for the "how to". The thing about this place is that it's got someone asking the same question almost daily so you'll likely to find a "How Do I Get Ringtones Onto My Phone" thread pretty easily.
At the Howard Forums, there is a sub-forum for Verizon and in that forum, there are even more separate forums for each phone maker. In the LG sub-forum, there are 12 "stickies", at least 4 of which deal with getting mp3 and ringtones onto your phone.
