40 Years and Counting.....

I'm pretty sure that nobody mentioned it here but May 18 marked the 40 year anniversary of when Roscoe Mitchell, Lester Bowie, Malachi Favors and Phillip Wilson recorded the first tracks in Pete Bishop's basement of The Art Ensemble as released by the *great* Chuck Nessa. Granted they had been playing as such since December 3, 1966, but I just wanted to recognize this somewhat significant milestone and, in view of the fact that 3 of the original participants are no longer with us, that the group is still going with the infusion of some new blood.

I still have a hard time with the idea that Bowie is gone.

I was trying to remember who was the third person that was deceased. I had forgotten that Phillip Wilson was an original member (drums) of the AEC.
