I'm no SZ, but I'll weigh in that Guts is pretty awesome.
I was at the show where it was recorded, too....

I can actually say I have met Rob C, and he's no SOZ.

Not yet, but I have to say I was less than thrilled with that grouping's previous release on Hat from a couple years ago.
Speaking of McPhee, I heard about a new release in which he uses the Survival Unit moniker. The inclusion of Lonberg-Holm intrigued me. Any word on that joint?

Yeah, I heard some scuttlebutt on that too. It’s called DON’T POSTPONE THE JOY and is on some Italian CDR label called RaiTrade. Haven’t heard it yet, but the band is playing Vision as part of the Bill Dixon celebration, I think.
Curious to learn what you didn’t like about TALES OUT OF TIME? Was it the “ballad” aspect of the project? For my money, “Master of a Small House” has one of the best melodies Brötzmann’s every come up with.

I could probably give a more nuanced response, but basically, yeah, that's it. It's not that I'm against Brotz working in this mode. I just wasn't feeling it

That's cool. Part of what I like about it is how it stands out in his catalog. Plus, the chance to hear the tenors of Brötz & McPhee in tandem made me giddy. GUTS has quite a bit more fireworks.
The Tentets arrived yesterday so I'll report back soon.

There's talk of a multi-night series of tentet + small groupings scheduled for late November/early December in Chicago. Nothing certain yet though.
