Who's Getting An iPhone?

Looks pretty cool in the commercial don't you think? I'm in the market for new everything...pc, internet, phone, the whole kit and so I was paying more attention than I might otherwise.

Also does anyone watch tv on their cellphone?

YEAH BAYBEE!!! I guess that's a "no" for tv on the go, stone. But what about in an emergency like if American Idol was coming on and you were stuck on the train.

didn't think about that - DIDJA?

I want to be plugged into the matrix. I'm done with "reality".

Oh, and yeah, that's a no on the Iphone, or I-anything.

hey I've never had a cell phone before so that's why I figure I need to get the newest stuff on the market. It looks cool on tv. Like you just have to focus thoughts in iPhone's direction and it'll call your friend, do the laundry and have dinner ready by 5:30 - supercool!

You've spent too much time in nature, my friend. It's unlikely we could save you by now. That said, I like you not any less for living outside the matrix (but I'll still have to tell on you).

Cellphones are great for when your car breaks down. Fuck that hang a tee shirt out the window thing.

Or when you're on the road and want to order ahead at your favorite Thai takeout joint.

Both of those events take place in a car. I sense a pattern.

I had to rough up the Verizon salesman before he'd show me one without a camera, but he eventually capitulated. I have a camera for pictures.

So as not to kill your thread, I'll post that my cellphone doesn't take pictures, or play music. If it did, I wouldn't complain.

As far as iStuff....Apple is the new Microsoft. I refuse to submit.

Yup. Remember when cellphones used to be called "carphones?"

iAgree.

heh heh

do people still use stereo? I'm sorta interested in the idea of hooking up pc to sound system and being able to listen to anything you ever wanted to whenever you wanted via the internet but I mean you can or you can not get good sound production?

I guess what I really want to know since I see everyone and their chichi has an iPod - how is the fidelity of downloaded music?

And were the size of your average bread box?

I want an iPhone. I need something with Bluetooth so I can use it with my in-car system.

I too had to dig a bit to find a Sprint phone without a camera. My sense is that at some point they will be impossible to find. Couldn't agree more with Pete: I use a camera for pictures. And digital cameras are small enough these days to carry anywhere.

The iPhone looks great, as do many of the multi-tasking phones available now, but I've got no need for what they offer. Amazing how this culture convinces itself that it needs all these new technological advances....

what it makes me think of - watching movies on a cell phone and texting in tinyland - is that statistic about how dentists have the highest suicide rate by profession attributed to their having worked on a such tiny space over the course of their life so maybe one day a substantial portion of all these permanently connected/matricized people will off themselves and the human pool will be better off for it, but we will have to wait for their progeny to do the same thing.

sumthin like that - anyway, have a great weekend all, I'm off to Waldenpond for the weekend.

I hope (for your sake, because I like you) that you've been there before, and you don't think it's still a wilderness like when Thoreau lived there. 'Cuz if not, well, you may want to stay home and watch movies on your iphone thingy.

Yeah, mine does. I hardly ever use it but I don't mind having it. I don't see it as a replacement for an actual camera since the quality isn't that great and it's kind of a pain to transfer the pictures off the phone. It's more for capturing random occurrences in situations in which you might not have a camera with you.

I don't want to have music or other entertainment on my phone. My main is that those features will suck up the charge and I might be unable to use the phone when I actually need it. I wouldn't mind having GPS on it, though.

Having said that, from what I've seen in the commercials, the iPhone looks really cool. I just probably won't be getting it (or whatever its competitors will be) any time soon.

$400 for a cellphone with an unreplaceable battery with limited life that runs on a slower phone network? No thanks.

No battery-powered device has unlimited battery life, and the original iPod owners were understandably angry when their batteries failed and they couldn't get them replaced.

Now, you can get your iPod's battery replaced by Apple for a fee of $59 + S&H. I've bought several batteries for my video camera, cellular phone and other devices over the years, so I don't see much difference, frankly.

I've been using my 20GB iPod for over two years without any battery issues. If it dies, I'll either send it to Apple or get another free one.

I won't be purchasing an iPhone, however. I still favor my hand-crank model.

I have a cellphone with a camera. I don't care much about the camera, but as Sergio said, it's convenient once in a rare while.
