Arafat's "home" in Gaza looted
Associated Press - June 16, 2007 6:23 AM ET

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) - A crowd has looted one of the strongest symbols of the Fatah movement in the Gaza Strip.

Witnesses say the crowd entered the home of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, taking furniture, wall tiles and Arafat's personal belongings.

The villa has been empty since Arafat left for the West Bank in 2001 shortly after the outbreak of the second Palestinian uprising. Israel confined him to the West Bank until it allowed him to fly to France for medical care in late 2004. Arafat died in France several weeks later.

Arafat founded Fatah and led the Palestinians for four decades before his death.

Hamas seized control of Gaza this week after defeating Fatah forces in five days of fighting.

I thought sending U.S. troops to Iraq was going to assure the rapid spread of peace, democracy, and other western-style wonders all over the Middle East, Monte.

This is the perfect time for Israel to return the Gaza Strip to Egypt and the West Bank to Jordan.

This is the perfect time for Israel to stay the hell out of it and let these clowns enjoy their little civil war.

Meanwhile, someone's shooting rockets at Israel from Lebanon. Never a dull moment.

Well, forcibly overthrowing Arab governments is a western-style wonder that the Palestinians have picked up on nicely.
