Father's Day 2007
Best wishes to you all.
To me, becoming a Dad was the best gig I ever got! I had a Father who was a very good example and a very fine man in so many respects!
This Father's Day will not soon be forgotten as my Dad, Jerrold (Jerry) [Feb 10, 1921 - June 17, 2007] passed away at about 9AM Mountain time........I'm in Colorado with my kids and my 16lb angel Olivia.
What a blessing to have been with them over the last two days, when this sudden last turn came about.
He had a terminal illness, but appeared he would be around a while longer after surviving last winter, which none of us thought he would survive, including Dad.
He moved from the States to Israel to live out his final time surrounded by most of our immediate family who live there, and were all needed for taking turns in taking care of his needs. The paperwork was expedited for his citizenship there, which allowed all kinds of health care benefits that may not have been as readily available here, and at little or no cost.
I'm home to San Jose tomorrow night, and off to Israel to visit and gather with the family early Wednesday morning.
I'm essentially gone for about the next 10 days............may check in and lurk if downtime will allow

Take care, Mike. I lost my dad last year, on his 88th birthday, and sympathize with your loss.

My sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of your Dad, Mike.
Glad that you were with your daughter, son-in-law and little Olivia today.
I was fortunate to enjoy a wonderful day with my wife, her parents, our daughter and her family (including our two oldest grandchildren), and also received a phone call from our youngest (2½ yr. old) grandson from California.

Sorry for your loss. At least you know your father was where he wanted to be. It will be a bittersweet trip out there, but as you say, memorable.

My sympathies, Mike. I know how hard it is.
This year for Father's Day, I took out a long-frozen package of yellow perch filets the old man gave me, the winter before he died, thawed them out, and cooked them for dinner.
It kind of felt like the fat guy on The Sopranos who didn't want to thaw out and cook his wife's last ziti.

Sorry to hear about your dad, Mike.
I spent the day on the beach on Lieutenant Island yesterday with one of my oldest friends from high school. We fished a little (didn't catch anything), had a few beers and a stogie and caught some rays. It was a gorgeous afternoon. Also saw a juvenile green turtle race across the beach and into Cape Cod Bay. Never saw that happen before; it was pretty cool. I caught him for a couple of pictures, then let him swim away.

I see now that this wasn't really a blanket father's day thread. Mike, I am truly sorry for your loss. I know you are away but my best wishes to you and your family in dealing with this.

I'm in Israel now as I respond......tippy, I really did want to wish everyone a Happy FD, although my Dad's passing came that day.
As sad as that event was, and still is, I had the most wonderful Day with my kids in Colorado, first Father's Day for Paul, and my first as a Grandpa , along with the fact that getting to see them under any circumstance is a real treat!
We went to a couple of view points along the Colorado River. They live right by the Eagle River, and the Eagle runs into the Colorado some 20-25 miles west of where they live.
In fact, one place in particular was the exact spot I went with my Dad the morning of Mika & Paul's wedding June 18,2005.
I thank everyone for your kinds words and thoughts.
