Ignacio Berroa Wins 2007 Danish Music Award for "Best International Jazz Album of the

International drummer and composer Ignacio Berroa walked home with the 2007 Danish Music Award for "Best International Jazz Album of the Year" for his long-awaited debut album "CODES" (Blue Note Records). The 19th Annual Danish Music Awards celebrated the best of last year at the KB-Hallen in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday, June 8th, 2007. "CODES" has swept the souls of listeners across the globe, with an all-star line up that includes, David Sanchez, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Edward Simon, John Patitucci and Giovanni Hidalgo.

"I am honored to receive this award, in a country with such a great jazz tradition. Also having being able to collaborate with such talented musicians to mix the language of Afro-Cuban and Jazz music has been an amazing experience for me," says Ignacio Berroa. With every song on the album having its own fire and tempo, Codes can be viewed as a reflection of what Ignacio Berroa's music is about. Ignacio Berroa's communication element in Codes has the power to transfer excitement into everyone's bones and put them into a visionary groove regardless of culture and musical taste.

Co-produced by Ignacio Berroa, Rubalcaba and Ricardo (Edito) Martinez, "CODES", has been recognized by Denmark as the best International Jazz album. Berroa's eight tracks of spontaneity and fusion of Latin and Jazz move you intrinsically, swinging you into unexpected cadence each second. This remarkable album presents up-tempo tracks like "Matrix" and "Pinocchio" where Latin and Jazz meet in the middle. Ignacio Berroa's delivers a universal dialect with unforgettable musical passages, and melodies like "Joao Su Merced" and "La Comparsa."

Berroa has been traveling extensively in '07 performing at various engagements worldwide to include the Heineken Jazz Festival in Puerto Rico, as well as many other engagements in the U.S. Ignacio Berroa will also be at the New Calgary Jazz Festival on June 21st, and Medicine Hat Jazz Festival on June 22nd in Canada. He will also be the headliner at the Flint Jazz Festival in Flint, MI, on August 4th.
