The Best Thread in Jazzcorner?
I vote for the "Guitarist April Lawton RIP??" tread in "other Music. I originated it about six months ago but never envisioned that so many articulate, informative, and thought-provoking posts would follow. Cookie gave her opinion that this is "the best thread", see her post #183 in the thread. Also, several musicians and other people who knew April provided their only posts in Jazzcorner to this thread. April Lawton provides one of the most fascinating stories in music for me... a world-class musician who received scant recognition from the masses but ample kudos from musicians, a supernova who disappeared from music after just a few years, never to be heard from again. She died on Thanksgiving, 2006 without fanfare or media acknowledgement. Her story begs for journalistic research and exposure.

I second that nomination and meant it. I learned about a genius who I'd never heard of and am intrigued. The way that thread unfolded seems very special to me. I will be reading it from now on. I'll be interested to see what others add. That thread is fascinating but I think it's important as well as interesting.
That thread read like a book that I couldn't put down, man. I started at the beginning last night and couldn't stop until it was finished.

I hope it's not that thread because I've never checked it out, and I'd hate to think I've been missing a good time.

It really *is* an amazing thread with an amazing and relatively unknown story behind it. If you haven't read it, check it out. It is also neat that the thread has brought "non-jazz" folks to jazzcorner including some who have joined in the jazz discussions and some who might otherwise *never* visit this site.
It is an extremely interesting thread. I hope somebody writes a book about April Lawton. She is truly a fascinating and unique person who would make a fascinating book if that thread is any indication.
It truly is the most interesting (and thought provoking) threads I've read since being here.

BTW: I think Lenny wants others to put forth their own "best threads" as well. That's the idea I got from his first post. Yes, we love that April Lawton thread, but I don't think that Lenny that others must have the same idea. What do other folks think the best thread is? (and of course, "best" could be different for everybody). I just think the April Lawton thread is something special.

I vote for this thread.
And of course, Lenny's other thread, about April Lawton (which I have never read), is No. 2.
(Actually, I have read it, but I thought it would be more interesting to pick a thread that I hadn't read as at least my No. 2 pick, for the sake of fairness. (reading a thread shouldn't be a detriment to getting a vote or two.)

OK, by my count it's 2 to 2--this thread versus Lenny's other thread.

I think we should have weighted votes... don't they do that for picking the best football teams?

I would have never read the April Lawton thread if not for this one. I'm glad I checked it out.

OK, I'm in. Awesome thread. Great discussion, and great for this community.
Obviously very different musically, but kind of an Eva Cassidy vibe, dontcha think? The little known genius for whom death brings immortality?
People used to think Sojourner Truth was a man, too, because she was so articulate. She proved her gender to an audience by whipping out one of her breasts.
Anyway, it's much better than this thread.

The Best Thread in Jazzcorner?
All time?
My vote goes to "Who is Cecil Taylor and does it matter?"
That one still brings rain

Cooks,
You read me like sheet music. I reallly like the "You Tube Google Video Non-Jazz Version thread" because it's an instant learning tool. Some of the submissions you guys listed in this thread are fantastic. Also like "The Sopranos" thread which turned out better than the last season's episodes.

I would have voted for the April Lawton thread if it was titled:
April Lawton: did he/she take a dirt nap?
I don't feel comfortable voting for a thread I started, so I have to feel uncomfortable voting for
"I don't want to have to spell it Rin Tinton"

I change my vote.
I think any thread which embarrasses GoodSpeak or allows posters here to indiscriminately put him down are the best threads on this BBS.
Long live abuse and the selective justification for it....after all, he brought it on, eh?
Personal responsibilty is dead.

I didn't realize we could vote for that. Make that two votes in favor.
Out of curiosity, which threads that you've posted on don't embarrass you?

Other amusingly ironic historical quotes...
Adolf Hitler: "Where is the tolerance, my brothers?"
Jeffrey Dahmer: "I believe that children are the future"
Mother Teresa: "What the fuck are you looking at?"
