"And in Philadelphia, a lesbian gang called DTO, Dykes Taking Over, are allegedly terrorizing people as well."

As far as paranoia and one-sidedness, the Southern Poverty Law Center (link above) is no better than O'Reilly, and probably worse in some respects. They (SPLC) used to send out information by mail, before the internet, which I read at the time. Their targets usually were, and probably still are, whites involved in various discrimination issues, racist crimes, or other activities. I have never once seen them bring up a discrimination-related injustice or violent hate crime that was done by a minority (gay, person of color, etc.).

In that case it's because you don't read their publications. They regularly feature pieces on black and Latino hate groups, but I hate to disappoint you--those groups have nothing on whites as far as the extent and magnitude of hate crimes are concerned. But it seems like you're more concerned about SPLC cramping the style of white hate groups than their being "fair and balanced." I'm sure you'd like to believe there are gays and women committing hate crimes all over the place too.

Well, I have to admit that most of what I remember about that organization is from publications I saw years ago. I stand corrected.

Many "hate" crimes are committed by individuals and gangs - not organized groups. I'd say that muggings and other violent street crimes, which target certain groups and people, probably dwarfs the record of the equally-repulsive organized hate groups.

Of course I do not believe that there are many hate crimes being committed by gays and women's groups. I simply do not think that the idea of "thought" crimes is a good concept to use in court. Crime is crime, and the guilty should be punished for their actions equally. I certainly think that innocent people who are attacked by gangs, whether they are a different race or sexual orientation as the attackers or not, are victims of a hate-type crime - but they are victims first and foremost, and the best approach to fighting this type of crime is to prosecute the perps as common criminals. We don't want to create martyrs for sick causes.

Late to this party, but really Hudson Boy, there's no need to bring up what you're talking about, as all across our country, abuse by any minority it seems, will be handled swiftly with retribution aplenty. We'll all see to it. Our jails are full of perpetrators of black on white crime, hispanic on white crime, and so it goes. In certain areas of the country, this Southern Poverty Law Center does provide a valuable service, and it's pretty brave of them to do it.

I did not defend O'Reilly, other than to say that he admitted his report was wrong. I have never expressed support of him on this board, and I agree that he is garbage.
