I voted YES.
I normally take the pro-harmonica side whenever the issue is presented in a referendum vote.

Jazz harmonica is good.

Virtuoso harmonica is good.

And Sonny Boy may be the best...

Yes, I like the Harp/Harmonica very much in the right hands.

In fact, I used to play with a fine blues harpist in Anchorage, Gary Sloan. I'd rate him right up there with some of his venerable heroes, many of whom he's shared the stage with over the years.

I heard Gregoire Maret play a superb solo on "Maiden Voyage" with Herbie Hancock last night (the first time they shared a bandstand). Marcus Miller was on bass, and Poogie Bell on drums.

Then we'll sic the Harmonica Police on him and lock him a room with Johnny Puleo records.

The only CD I have with Gregoire Maret on it is Charlie Hunter's "Right Now Move."

Would like more.

There's a new CD by Maret and Andy Milne that looks good.

I don't remember who plays on Scot Colley's new CD, but I thought their playing was great.

I agree, I like Levy a lot, and know him from several albums with Rabih Abou-Khali and Ken Nordine.

Then there was this victim of McCarthyist blacklisting:

I'm sure his harmonica playing was full of secret messages that would have undermined the wholesome god-fearin' America we all know and love.

What, no Carey Bell? 'Good Luck Man' is a killer album. He learned from some of the masters and became one himself. I was all set to see him in a couple weeks in NY state, but he died at the beginning of May. Check him out.
