Back on the "air"...

After a three-plus year hiatus I'm back doing a radio show. "Bright Moments" takes to the KBCS 91.3 FM airwaves Sunday-Monday 7/15-16 from midnight to 2:00 a.m. Pacific Time. This community station streams to the worldwide web 24/7 at kbcs.fm by the way.

Congratulations, Bill.

I miss being on-the-air, too. I've often thought about doing a stream from our home, but haven't acted on it.

Interestingly, one of my dear friends, Michael Esfeld, who lives in Bellevue, used to work with me at KJZZ-FM in Anchorage, "back in the day". Also, Scot Charles from Seattle.

I'll tune in if possible.

Have fun!

Congrats Bill look forward to hearing you. I hope the new edicts from SoundExchange don't affect your streaming

Congrats Bill.

I wish that I can be on air but I have to deal with things on the personal front.

Thanks for the encouraging words, everyone. It's definitely a creative outlet that I've missed greatly.

So far as announcements, all I heard is that the possibilities of a new deal being brokered that may allow some to stay up & running.

That doesn't change the former deadline.

Mike, I'm really sorry that KSJS decided to shut down their stream. I hope things change for the better, and soon.

That said, I'm encouraged to note that KBCS, KCSM, KPLU, KMHD, WBGO & WPRB are still streaming at this time.

Actually, I just called up KSJS and heard a QuickTime stream of a Hip-Hop show.

This may be, or more than likely is the reason why you were hearing it, after our GM told us on Tuesday that we would be done today. We were off this morning during my show, but we are in fact streaming right now!

Bill, I'm afraid that I misunderstood your initial post and the times you were going to be on-the-air. I read the above to mean that you were on two nights in a row (7-15 & 7-16) from mid-2am.

So, I guess that I missed your debut, dammit.

My fault. Inexact post. Oops! That midnight changeover is perenially confusing. The show actually starts at 0000 hours Monday but we usually think of this as Sunday night.

FYI, my friend John Pai is on right now with Giant Steps, an excellent program of adventurous jazz that airs Mondays from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. EDIT 7/24/07: I'll be filling in for him on August 20th and 27th

Haven't caught your show...yet...but have been digging KBCS (and, I'll admit, KPLU) the past three weeks I've been working in Issaquah. Will definitely try to catch your show soon.

Hi, BeBop, glad to hear that you're digging KBCS. As you've probably discovered, there's lots of fine jazz to be heard, including morning drive-time jazz . Tons of quality world music, folk, etc. too and Democracy Now. It's a true community radio station.

Yeah, KPLU is good at what they do. Sunday is my favorite day on KPLU, with Jim Wilke's "Jazz NW" and Ken Wiley's "The Art of Jazz", shows that operate outside the consultant-driven formula that holds sway elsewhere.

"Bright Moments" is not on the permanent schedule yet at KBCS, it's still sort of "on probation" if you'll pardon the expression. Those of you who have heard the show and like it could help greatly if you would send a quick e-mail in support of the show to KBCS Program Director Peter Graff at pgraff@bcc.ctc.edu

Thanks and BRIGHT MOMENTS!

Are you on-the-air in a few hours, Bill? In other words, from midnight-2am tomorrow?

If so, I'll do my best to tune in, buddy.

Edit: I'm diggin' Bright Moments for the very first time as I type, Bill. Cool.

Thanks for your support, Ron. The other week I plugged the 24/7 webstream by saying you can hear us "whether you're in Anchorage or Ireland," by the way, as I knew there was a possibility of folks in both those locations being "tuned in."

Approximately eleven hours from now (midnight Sunday to 2:00 a.m. Monday) it's my "Bright Moments" tribute to Rahsaan Roland Kirk on KBCS http://www.kbcs.fm. The entire show will feature his music this time around. August 7th (Tuesday) marks the 71st anniversary of his birth (EDIT: 72nd anniversary according to Michael Fitzgerald).

Bill - congratulations on the show. I hope you make it through the "probationary period" to have a regularly scheduled slot. I have not been able to hear it yet myself (I think I would have to be up at about 3:00 a.m.), but the play lists you have posted look very interesting.

Hey Bill:

Congrats on your new "gig"! I hope it lasts.
Your playlists look much more musically interesting and varied than those "other guys" in Tacoma and I plan to check out the station on the online link ...

I wish I could get KBCS in my car because as I said, I'm reall getting fed up with the "corporo -jazz" restricted playlist favored by Joey C and the KPLU folks .
