Hello steve,
have really enjoyed RW's ECM albums, espec the last two 'Skirting' and 'Iron Stone', both which I think have a well-integrated range of styles, folk, jazz, Eastern, renaissance, even a touch of 'modern dissonant' classical, plus Williamson's vocals which go from speech to song and all stations between. Thanks for getting these very original-sounding projects to happen.

a thought re a possible future collaboration - how about Williamson with VM Bhatt, the mohan vina player, or L Subramaniam, the violinist ? - both of whom I've heard doing cross-over stuff, mainly on Waterlily Acoustics label. any chance ?

regards
rick

Thanks, Rick. It's encouraging to hear positive responses to the Williamson discs, especially on a jazz-oriented discussion forum. Your suggestions are pretty good too, especially re Mr Bhatt. Will keep that in mind. Robin 's maiden voyage with the Bhatt-invented Mohan vina on "The Iron Stone" inspired him to play more bottleneck guitar again, and this was a theme, he tells me, of his recent Spanish solo concerts.

best, steve

PS: Is Waterlily Acoustics still active? It's years since I've seen their releases in the German shops...

waterlily / williamson

Hi Steve - thanks for reply.
Yes, Waterlily are still going...

http://www.waterlilyacoustics.com/main.htm
music@waterlilyacoustics.com

They have a fair few records inc Martin Simpson with various people / traditions, as well as some jazz eg larry coryell, james newton, jacky terrasson, and other crossover specialists such as Jon Hassell, Ry Cooder

one of my favourites is 'Tabula Rasa', with Bhatt, Bela Fleck and Jie-Bing Chen

the Williamson voice would be the point of difference if he could work with some of the 'eastern' musicians - apart from a Taj mahal project waterlily's stuff I know is mainly instrumental - and of course some of Robin's songs would be great subject matter for this sort of collaboration, as in the ecm series but with a different flavour

anyway, cheers for now

Rick
