Rahsaan Roland Kirk info needed...

I'm planning a birthday tribute to Rahsaan for my August 6th radio
show.

Due to a computer "meltdown" awhile back I lost the
personnel/recording info on the following material. Most of this I
received in trades from Thomas Kober in Austria. Are you here
Thomas? I e-mailed you today and the message came back as
undeliverable. Probably an ancient addie as we haven't corresponded
in ages...

The recordings are:
*Newport 7/8/62 (from WKCR Andrew Hill Marathon broadcast)
*Village Vanguard 12/25/69
*Stuttgart, Germany 2/26/70 (two CDRs)
*Paris, France 2/22/70 (two CDRs)
*Hamburg, Germany 3/3/72 (two CDRs)
*Village Vanguard 4/2/72 (two CDRs)
*Jazz Workshop 10/31/72 (WBCN broadcast)

If anyone can help with personnel, set-lists, etc. it would be
greatly appreciated. Many, many thanks in advance.

Bill - The above is Ronald Lyles' site. Go to the RRK list and you will find everything you need.

Ronald is a scholar and a gentleman.

Thanks, Tom! As a matter of fact, I know Ronald from JC and traded a bunch of CDRs with him awhile back (probably including the ones I now need the info on ).

What a wonderful resource. And, a very nice man, as Tom indicated.

Five of the seven dates are on Ronald Lyle's site, Bill.

Good call, Tom!

Thanks for the compliments.

Bill, just as a reminder, part of the 3/3/72 date was released on Brotherman In The Fatherland -- Live In Germany 1972. I am not sure whether all the set lists are up on etree, but I can probably track some of them down if needed.

Here is the info that I have for the 12/12/69 date:

Rahsaan Roland Kirk (reeds, voc), Howard Johnson (tu), Dick Griffith (tb), Leroy Jenkins (vn), Ron Burton (p), Sonelius Smith (celeste, piano), Vernon Martin (b), James Madison (d), Alvern Bunn (conga), Joe Texidor (perc).

Issued on Atlantic 1575, Rahsaan, Rahsaan

I do not list this on etree because it has been officially released.

Hi, Ronald! Many, many thanks. The etree site has been very helpful in tracking down the info I was looking for. I'm not sure yet if I will be using any of the commercially unreleased material on the Birthday Tribute show but at least now I will have the details available.

That's a scarily lengthy list of shows you have now, Ronald!!!!! Wow! Since we traded stuff back in the dark ages it jus grew...

Somewhere back in my medulla, I knew that Jenkins had played with Kirk but I'd totally forgotten about it. Curious how that worked...

Thanks for the correction. Definately a typo. I would like to think that since I have several of his recordings I should know his name.

What is sad is that I have about 1200 more that I have not even entered onto the etree site, most of them I have not even listened to yet. It has indeed been an obsession for me that I am still struggling to control.

Well, Ronald, as obsessions go it sure beats crystal meth or vodka, if you know what I mean.

Turning down nookie in favour of music is where it starts getting kooky, if you know what I mean...

Thanks again to everyone for their help. Between JC and the Bright Moments Yahoo! group I've come up with 99% of the info I was searching for. Very cool.
