PLAINFIELD: Friends of Jazz seeks sponsors for casino night
The music education and therapy program Friends of Jazz is looking for sponsors for its first-ever "Casino Royale," a casino night and silent auction, 7-11 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Crystal Room, 403 Somerset St., North Plainfield.
Formed seven years ago by Robert Young, a blind jazz trumpeter-vocalist from Plainfield, Friends of Jazz brings concert performances to shut-ins in nursing homes and hospitals and offers lessons to young Plainfield music students.
Young peforms with his group, also called Friends of Jazz. Their Jazz Around program has touched more than 9,000 who otherwise wouldn't have gotten to enjoy a live concert.
Earlier this year, Young established an education program called Project Future Legends, which offers lessons to three young winners of a jazz talent show. Private lessons to enhance their schools' music curriculums soon will begin for the program's first three winners.
More than 200 patrons are expected to attend "Casino Royale." The event will feature gaming, prizes, a silent auction, a buffet dinner, a one-hour open bar, a cash bar and music by Friends of Jazz.
Central Jersey businesses and organizations are urged to sponsor "Casino Royale." Sponsors will be included in the event's program and will receive a variety of incentive packages based on extent of support. Those who register by Aug. 31 also will be included on invitations and in publicity materials.
Sponsorships are available for $300-$3,000. The top Platinum Chip package includes a sign with company name and logo displayed at the entrance of and inside the game room, a prominently placed full-page ad in the program and 10 admissions to the event. To obtain a sponsorship package, call Young at (908) 755-1120 or e-mail
